About this listen

Detective Nikki Galena's friend and neighbor meets a tragic end, but there's more to his death than meets the eye. And someone terrible from DS Joseph Easter's past is back.

A man is found executed on a piece of wasteland in Greenborough town. The cold-blooded murder triggers terrible memories for DS Joseph Easter. Just when things seemed to be going well for DS Easter, he realizes that the nightmare is coming back, threatening his career, his sanity, and maybe his life. In a breath-taking conclusion, even Nikki begins to doubt DS Easter as he faces a race against time to save someone very close to him.

Critic reviews

"5/5...There just doesn't seem time to catch your breath through this book, there is just something happening all the way through it." ( I Love Reading)

The story itself is very good, it jogs along well and the characters are mostly likeable and believable. The narration however leaves a lot to be desired. The lady has a rather shrill tone to her voice and she sounds really odd at times. Shame really because the story deserves better. I did force myself to listen to the end because I really wanted to know what it was all about, but I will actively avoid this narrator in future.

Great story. Odd narration

Thoroughly good book, great characters, and the narrators character voices were a delight. Great twists and turns, recommended. Book 3 next for me!

Really enjoyable

Like others I do like the stories, but having found this series after listening to her later novels narrated by a male actor I concur that these narrations are poor, however, they seem to have rectified this, so persevere for the sake of the author.

Great story shame about the narration

Well thought out murder mystery. Very enjoyable one that you feel you can't stop reading. Enjoyable series so far and seem to get better.

An intriguing story with very good characters, very well written.
I didn’t think that the narration did justice to the story. Overall however an excellent audio book.

Another excellent book from this talented author

As usual Joy Ellis has written another gripping story. There were so many twists so it kept you guessing. Very good.

I felt the story flowed better than the first book and enjoyed the story. Worth a listen to.

Much better than the first book

The story was great but the narrator just made every character a different shade of Yorkshire, even the one who was described as “very geordie”! It didn’t ruin the book but it certainly didn’t enhance it.

Good story but I see what everyone means about the narrator!
