About this listen

Criminologist Martin Knight lives a gilded life and is a thorn in the side of the police. But then his wife, Liz, goes missing. There is no good explanation and no sign of Martin.... To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard, who is drawn into the investigation.

Is it just a missing person or something worse? And what relevance do the events around the shocking Girl F case, so taken up by Knight, have to do with the present? The truth is darker than you could ever have imagined.

You know when you don’t want a book to end, well this for me was one of those books. Well you do want it to end because you are really curious as to the outcome. This was a well researched book with a great story. The narration was second to none and very enjoyable. Nick Louth is now on my list of favourite authors. The story is complex and I don’t want to go into it in depth frightened of giving too much away, well worth a read

Loved this book

Very detailed and interesting story.

Although I really liked listening to Marston York when reading narrative, I found his S.E. accent for male and female characters dreadful. I come from this area and the accent was far too exaggerated and jarred on my nerves. He also went up an octave which made the 'hard man South London' accent sound puny and almost laughable. Neither was there any differentiation between one character and another and so I got confused as to who was meant to be speaking. This also applied between male and female characters too!

If I ignored this problem, I found it to be a great read.

Brilliant with one small irritating fault.

Enjoyable read, I did work out what was happening fairly early on but that didn’t detract much from the story

Good read

Well I'm amazed by the way the story unfolds. all the time keeping up the suspence, and a brilliant turn of events to give the final twist

I bought the first book in the DCI Craig Gillard series as a book of the day. I thought I’d give it a go. I loved it so much that I have now bought all 6 books in the series and am looking forward to book 7 which is due out in February. I love the characters and feel like I know them. The storylines are fascinating and I couldn’t stop listening. Even cooked the suppers with earphones whilst my husband was watching television so I didn’t have to leave the story. The narrator was perfect in my opinion. I can’t recommend this series highly enough, and am looking forward to reading other title by this author.

The beginning of a wonderful series.

Although I realised when I started listening that I had recently read this, it is an excellent book, expertly read!

Gripping!

I found it drawn out at times, but never enough to quench my thirst for more. A lot of research must have gone into the story and made it seem incredibly real! All together a good listen. 👍

Amazing plot!

I have really enjoyed listening to this story, it was quite gripping, I did realise who did it well before the end. The author, characters and narrator was great.
