I had listened to Allen Carr's other book and had stopped for months at a time, but for me, there was always a trigger. If something upset me, all I wanted to do is what my brain and body knew, which was smoke to calm down.
I decided I wanted to stop for good when I purchased the boot camp book, but was in a bad place mentally. I played it without listening. Then I played it again, listening this time and knowing I will prove Allan Carr & team wrong, but somehow that 4th day, I smoked my last cigarette.
I still have my tobacco etc somewhere and sometimes, I do think that maybe I could have one to relieve my frustrations, but I don't and it is not a struggle. I have alcohol in my house too and I sometimes think about it, but that doesn't mean I drink it. This book taught me that if I had that cigarette, my situation wouldn't change. That was an eye opener.
6 weeks after I stopped smoking, I run my first 2k. I struggled but enjoyed it, so I built on that and last week I run my first 5k without walking, just running.
When the thought of having one comes in mind, I reject it immediately now as I don't want to loose what I have achieved so far.
My advice is, find something you like to do that smoking prevents you from doing. Buy the book, really listen to it and then build on this a day at a time. Your new found activity will hold you in the right place when you need it along with the knowledge this book brings.
The brain will reprogram itself if we let it. Just give it something new to think about.
