About this listen
He wants revenge, but he wants her more.
Once upon a time, there was a little boy.
His belly full of laughter, his life full of joy.
Until one day, something changed; stripped his innocence away.
The hole inside making space for the devil to come and play.
His dreams gone forever, he grew up way too fast.
An endless night of crocodiles, and watches made of glass.
He grew into a villain, the taste of vengeance on his tongue.
Craving to make his enemies pay for the misdeeds they had done.
Instead he found a darling girl, and refused to let her go.
For what better way to make the man pay, than to steal his little shadow.
Hooked is a full-length, complete standalone in the Never After series: a collection of dark romances where the villain gets the girl. It is not a literal retelling. It is a dark, contemporary romance (not a fantasy) featuring mature themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.

Great story
I loved this story, and the audiobook had some great moments, but I do have to say the “Boston” accents were really irritating, and I think detracted from the performance a little.

I liked it but...
I liked the story but it seemed like the tension was off because the male narrator did not express that in his voice. I missed the aggression and anger of Hook and this left it a bit flat.
The story was interesting and entertaining though and the plottwists were also fun but not necessarily shocking.

good
I liked the story and the actors.
it was annoying when the female actress did male impressions (same with male actor doing female impressions)
if you're going to pay for both a male & female actor, makes sense to have them do 100% of their character

Hooked
The title of the booked describes how I felt about it, was “hooked”. Enjoyed the charter development. The readers of the audio book were prefect fits for the charters and I’m glad I listened to this book over reading it. Highly recommended.

Just fine
This wasn't the best Peter Pan retelling I've ever read but it wasn't the worst. Liked the little nods to the original text but felt a bit forced in spots for my liking.

Loved the male narrator
The story was okay, I do feel like Wendy lacked some substance, I feel like James was more thrashed out as a character. I found myself rolling my eyes at Wendy, however. Every “Boston accent” and the British accent the FVA did grated on me unfortunately…
The “plot twists” weren’t very shocking either and I didn’t care much about the characters.
I’ll listen to the next book and see how I feel about it.
It is worth a listen whilst it’s free until 31/12/24.
