About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
From USA Today bestselling author Rina Kent comes a new dark romance about a villain and his new obsession.
I caught the attention of a monster.
I didn’t ask for it.
Didn’t even see it coming.
But the moment I do, it’s too late.
Killian Carson is a predator wrapped in sophisticated charm.
He’s cold-blooded, manipulative, and savage.
The worst part is that no one sees his devil side.
I do.
And that will cost me everything.
I run, but the thing about monsters?
They always chase.
Glyndon is your normal FMC is sweet and innocent that has yet to explore herself and her dark fantasies and scared to admit them. Then she meets Killian and he starts to introduce them to her. I am not going to lie there are times where the line of consent is very questionable but she does later admit she wanted it and Killian.
There is mafia and dark morally gray stalker themes throughout the book and I believe the series as well and we get to meet all the Heathens within the first couple as well as the Elites.
The story was well-written. It did take a while to get into the storytelling, but once I was in, I was hooked. Killian’s banter, sarcasm, and downright puzzlement at times for his feelings about Glyndon was moving and hilarious. Particularly jealous Killian.
I also loved the relationship between the Heathens and how they interact with each other, Niko is hilarious and I know he is going to be my favourite after I read his book, God of Fury.
It is spicy, there are quite a few spice scenes and some of them are just 🥵 especially that wood scene!
I really liked how we got to delve more into Killian and his background and why he is the way he is. I started reading this book without realising that there are prequels about their parents and grandparents but honestly you can read this without being confused. You are introduced to the parents but Rina Kent has written it so well that you can read it as a stand alone and would not think there are prequels.
Loved it! Dark, Funny and with a Psychotic and Morally Grey MMC

Also had a big problem listening to VA sounding like he's 50 when the MMC is 19. 😂
How many clichés can there be in one book?

A bit grapey for me

the narrator

I liked the messy complicated wider friendship groups and world building (despite the issues mentioned below) there is definitely a solid foundation for this world and I just hope that the series improves from here because I feel like this first couple didn't do the series justice.
Also as a British person I really really struggled that a book set in Britain has absolutely zero idea of British language, ecology or culture, most of which could be solved with a quick Google. I mean fireflies in the UK?!? Every time the narrator said maafia I cringed. I laughed when half the students were in their '4th' year at uni (we only have 3 years in England) and lots.of other really basic mistakes that could have easily been avoided.
finally could romance authors (especially dark romance) please please stop writing unrealistic or anatomically impossible spice?!? why is it even necessary it doesn't make it hotter.
Really wanted to love it but...

Story was ok I guess, bit long and boring for a lot of it. Too much inner monologue from FMC, without actually giving anything to the story. She’s annoying and didn’t really relate to her. Probably due to the voices. Hate when duos aren’t just read by the other narrator. Her doing his voice and vice versa is grating.
The one thing that will stay with me the most is them BOTH saying ‘left on read’ wrong. Left on reeeeeed 🙄 was so close to a dnf. Would not recommend.
Fine
