About this listen

A marriage is what you make it, isn't it? It's what you put into it. It's not just about love; it's about understanding another person's point of view. Sometimes there are things you find out about yourself and each other, which means the marriage has to end. Sad, particularly when kids are involved - but all pretty normal. Normal, that is, until there's a murder.

DS Jane Bennett and DI Mike Lockyer are called in to investigate one of the South London murder squad's most difficult and distressing cases yet - where family and friends come under scrutiny in the hardest of circumstances.

I wasn't sure if I would like this book but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was easy to listen to and I was quickly caught up in the story.

It was a difficult book for a female narrator because there are so many male characters, but she did very well. It was a bit difficult to distinguish which character was speaking, but it didn't really detract from the story.

I will look out for more by this author.

Surprisingly Good

It was a good book. I enjoyed it. Although it wasn't one of my favourites.

Good book

Quite enjoyed this as an easy listen. Good plot and storyline that keeps you quessing to the end. Not too enthralled by the reading. It is difficult to pull off using dramatic voices voices and unless it is done very well it is distracting and at times annoying. Afraid that this lady reader just cannot do male voices and the men sound like Fred Flintstone with a sore throat - perhaps not the best likeness but I'm sure that you get the message.

Interest and original tale

it was okay, not great (story, narration, all just... okay)
I've listened to a few of this series and this was the most just "tick box-y" of them.

Very run of the mill...

I found the beginning of this book a little slow. It revolves around the death of a father in his own home, discovered by his two children the next day. The subsequent police investigation revealed that things were not as they seemed. This isn't an edge of your seat thriller, but the story is interesting with a few red herrings, and I didn't guess who the murderer was.

I really liked the character of DS Jane Bennett, and she seemed to be the main character in the book rather than DI Mike Lockyer, who wasn't as likeable.

I'm usually a stickler for reading series in order, but for some reason I read this 3rd book in the series first even though I own the first two! It did read ok as a standalone, but I feel I would have had more of an understanding of DI Lockyer and his team if I'd read the series in order.

Slow Burner

I am enjoying the development of the characters whilst the story lines have done great twists which keep you guessing til the end. This is the third book in the series and I shall be reading others to find out what happens next

Again I loved this book just as I did the previous two. Good strong story entwined with the background relationships that continue. Imogen Church's narration is superb.

Third one all of them excellent
