About this listen

This title contains strong language and mature themes, including references to sexual violence, abuse of minors and animals, and suicide, that some listeners may find upsetting. Discretion is advised.

I just met my new son-in-law . . . And he’s my ex-husband.

They’re here. I watch them arrive from the kitchen window. My pregnant daughter and her new husband. They’ve barely known each other six months.

I greet him with a tight smile that he recognizes as fake.

Luke is no good for my beautiful, fragile Cerys. He’ll break her heart. I know that because he broke mine — when he was married to me.

I don’t know what he’s after. But I’m going to make it my business to find out.

Don’t underestimate me. I’ll do anything to keep my daughter safe.

Everyday family life in rural Wales

Totally ludicrous storyline, horrible characters, great Welsh narrator. I shouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did, but it was undeniably entertaining.

Absolutely brilliant!

One of those excellent mysteries that unfolds so gradually that you spend a lot of time disliking the wrong character

Decent story, good narration

Decent enough story, liked the narration style.
Maybe goes on a bit too long after what could have been conclusion.

It was pretty good

I liked the narration, nice voices. I didn’t not enjoy the character of the daughter.weak and meant,I guess she was written well to illicit such a response,so annoying. Good and twisty, but got silly rather fast towards the end. Such a shame, one well murder would have been enough rather than a bunch of coincidentally discovered ones.

Far fetched storyline and predictable

Storyline was far fetched and twists predictable from early on. The narration was good, but the daughter character really ruined it for me. Such a whiny, pathetic character - I think you were supposed to empathise with her but it had the opposite effect on me.

The twists at the end kept coming

I loved the writing style and getting to know the characters was instant and easy. Just wanted to keep on listening!

a little gem

ordinarily , trawling the free listens for something you can manage to listen to for more than 20 minutes is a really mundane and disheartening task. sound familiar? downloading this really felt like a stroke of luck and broke the monotony of work splendidly... excellent narration and a story line that avoids the ruts of so so many well plodded story lines.... thank you!

If you want to be constantly infuriated

The daughter is so insufferable. Everything about her made my blood boil and I don’t like reading books with characters I hate. The husband isn’t the villain, the daughter is. This is not a spoiler
