About this listen

We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic, but despite being inundated with diet advice we are only getting fatter. We count calories and exercise regularly, yet still the pounds won't budge. Why?

In this highly enjoyable and provocative book, Dr Jason Fung sets out a groundbreaking new theory: that obesity is caused by our hormones rather than a lack of self-control.

He reveals that overproduction of insulin in the body is the root cause of obesity and obesity-related illnesses including type 2 diabetes and offers robust scientific evidence that reversing insulin resistance is the only way to lose weight in the long term.

It turns out that when we eat is just as important as what we eat, so in addition to his five basic steps - a set of lifelong eating habits that will improve your health and control your insulin levels - Dr Fung explains how to use intermittent fasting to break the cycle of insulin resistance and reach a healthy weight - for good.

Mind blowing.

I agreed with a review I read before listening to this book that you have to slow it down to be able to absorb the facts and even then I think I’d listen on full speed as there’s so much to take in. Saying that I think what he’s saying makes so much sense. I’m not obese and I’ve never been one for using convenient foods but I wouldn’t mind trying the fasting and regulating my sleep pattern as it all sound so plausible to me and reasonably easy to commit to as well.
Who would have thought that the demon inside us all is the hormone Insulin!
Control it before it controls you.
I think this is a must read and maybe we should give our medical practice a copy too!

Now need to unlock the secrets of willpower

I have read may books about weight, gut microbes and diet, but this offers a very different perspective and all supported with science of course. It makes very good sense, all of it and I can see from own experience that insulin management is the way forward, but how do you manage your willpower - I have read many books on this subject too.

A great listen and well explained too.

Wow!

That should be read by most of the Western World! Fascinating even when listening - I may have to but the book though.

informative

I found the first half is a tough listen as I realised how confused our ideas on nutrition are but all that debunking is essential and the second half gives some great ideas in what to change.
talented reader... though I spat my coffee out at the pronunciation of quinoa (we've all been there).
I've already recommended this to people - and bearing the title in mind and how brutal it is to do that... well, I liked this book.

Eye opening and practical!

A completely different but scientific method with regards to being over-weight and how to combat it. A little repetitive in some places but it gets the point across. Fantastic otherwise.

A must read for everyone

Thank you. As a doctor myself I was never sure what to advice to my obese patients as there is so much contradicting information however this book distils it all. With all the evidence for each recommendation you can’t go wrong with what has been advised.
