About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The House of Hope and Dreams by Trisha Ashley, read by Julia Franklin.

From the Sunday Times bestselling Trisha Ashley, this novel will more than satisfy romantic comedy fans. And it also contains recipes!

When Carey Revell unexpectedly becomes the heir to Mossby, his family’s ancestral home, it’s rather a mixed blessing. The house is large but rundown and comes with a pair of resentful relatives who can’t be asked to leave.
Still, newly dumped by his girlfriend and also from his job as a TV interior designer, Carey needs somewhere to lick his wounds. And Mossby would be perfect for a renovation show. He already knows someone who could restore the stained glass windows in the older part of the house…

Angel Arrowsmith has spent the last ten years happily working and living with her artist mentor and partner. But suddenly bereaved, she finds herself heartbroken, without a home or a livelihood. Life will never be the same again – until old friend Carey Revell comes to the rescue.

They move in to Mossby with high hopes. But the house has a secret at its heart: an old legend concerning one of the famous windows. Will all their dreams for happiness be shattered? Or can Carey and Angel find a way to make this house a home?

Heart-warming, witty and quirkily original, Trisha Ashley's THE HOUSE OF HOPES AND DREAMS will delight both old fans and new listeners alike.

I found the performance was, on the whole, pleasant but found the reading a bit jerky

I have read or listened to most of Trisha Ashley’s books and enjoyed them. I particularly enjoyed this one. A nice story that is not the usual run of the mill romance.

Enjoyable

I quite enjoyed the story but felt the overall experience was spoilt by the reader sniffing frequently.

A lovely story, well narrated on the whole, good characterisation anice few twists and turns interesting plot without being chilling. I thoroughly enjoyed it as a relaxing escape from reality.

A jolly good gentle read

Strange story line but overall I enjoyed the book. But quite boring in the middle and at that point i nearly gave up!

Although the story was predictable, I did enjoy it, I was listening while doing my own glass work, which made it more interesting for me. I like a puzzle, and a bit of romance, but it was a tale of the baddies are bad and the goodies are good.

Listened while doing stained glass work

I have to admit the title of the book put me off a bit, but I actually loved the story. Especially all the detail about glass cutting and renovation works. I found the narrators voice a bit off putting and it didn't suit the story. Subsequently I found it hard to like Angel because of the way the narrator voiced her. I think if I read it Angel will come across a lot better! Overall, a good fun story with romance, mystery, a twist of horror and lots of satisfying house renovations!

Great story, odd narrator
