Summary
Random House presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of A Leap of Faith by Trisha Ashley, read by Julia Franklin.
Sappho Jones stopped counting birthdays when she reached 30, but even with her hazy grip on mathematics she realises that she's on the slippery slope to the big four-oh! With the thought suddenly lodged in her mind that she's a mere cat's whisker away from becoming a single eccentric female living in a country cottage in Wales, she has the urge to do something dramatic before it's too late.
The trouble is, as an adventurous woman of a certain age, Sappho's pretty much been there, done that, got the T-shirt. In fact the only thing she hasn't tried is motherhood. And with sexy potter Nye on hand as a potential daddy - or at least a donor - is it time for her to consider the biggest leap of all? It's either that or buy a cat....
Wonderfully wry, heartwarming and life-affirming, Trisha Ashley's hilarious novel is perfect for fans of romantic comedies by Milly Johnson and Jill Mansell. And it contains recipes!
This novel was originally published in 2001 as The Urge to Jump.

Good story with atmosphere
Easy to get into and you soon get into the Welsh atmosphere. Pleasant sounding narrator.

Loved it!
Loved the characters. Found myself laughing out loud and completely absorbed into the story.
Only way I would describe this book is slightly nutty with witty humour and romance thrown in.

A little disappointing
Having read or listened to most of Trisha Ashley's other books, I must admit I found this a bit of a let down. It's good to have a strong successful confident woman as the heroine, but I just didn't find her very likable, or even intelligent. (SPOILER ALERT) Sappho is a writer who by her own admission can lose all track of the world around her when she writes - so why on earth does she toy with the idea of becoming a single mother merely because she's approaching her 40th birthday? She enjoys sex with Ny, but is otherwise pretty unpleasant to him because he's 'not her type'. (Which I suspect if the sexes were reversed would be regarded as completely unacceptable behaviour on the part of the hero.) I was also put off by the narrator (who I've heard before and liked) who gives this Amazon goddess of a woman a rather shrill high-pitched voice. The story itself is a bit oddball - sometimes in a good way, but sometimes veering a little too far towards the simply unbelievable. I did listen to this book to the end, and I didn't regret buying it, but all in all I didn't feel it was really up to Trisha Ashley's usual high standard.

Disappointing
Tried a few time to read this book but could only manage to get as far s chapter 8. Not up to the standard of her other books.

really strange
I can't get through this book, have tried twice now but give up though ut's against my principles. It's a weird story, and I can't connect in any way to the main character, so now I leave this book just after a few chapters.

Animal Cruelty
Have enjoyed several of this authors novels. This has animal cruelty, with no warning, which is quite distressing. None of the characters are likable or engaging like in her other novels. I'll finish the book as don't like to give up, but would definitely not recommend it.

What a disappointment!
What did you like best about A Leap of Faith? What did you like least?
As a great Trisha Ashley fan, I was really looking forward to listening to A Leap of Faith. I had already read the book and enjoyed it immensely. Unfortunately the narrator didn't seem to be able to read very well and consistently mangled the sense of the text making it a very difficult listen.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I enjoyed all the characters even the beastly Dave
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I suspect that the narrator was not fully prepared to read this book. She didn't seem to fully understand what she was reading and struggled with Ashley's inclusion of a text within a text. The fact that the heroine, Sappho, is a writer herself and finds the Fantasy novel she is writing emerging in tandem with her own, 'real life' experience is a key element of A Leap of Faith'. The narrator read these sections in the same breathy, sub-hysterical tone that she adopted for the whole story which just didn't work.
And why does literature 'for women?' have to be read in this bizarre way anyway? Surely the romance 'will out' through it's own, innate power. It certainly did when I read the book.
Was A Leap of Faith worth the listening time?
Doubtful
