About this listen

Crowford, a sleepy coastal town in the south of England, might seem like an oasis of calm and tranquillity. Beneath the surface, however, dark secrets are waiting to claim fresh victims and ghostly figures plot revenge.

Having finally decided to leave the hustle of London, Daisy and Richard Johnson buy two houses on Nelson Street, a picturesque street in the centre of Crowford. One house is perfect and ready to move into, while the other is a fire-ravaged wreck that needs a lot of work. They figure they have plenty of time to work on the damaged house while Daisy recovers from a traumatic event.

Soon, they discover that the two houses share a common link to the past. Something awful once happened on Nelson Street, something that shook the town to its core. Before they can face Crowford's horrors, however, Daisy and Richard have to deal with the ghosts of their own recent history. What is Daisy hiding, and why does Richard feel strangely drawn to one of the town's oldest inhabitants?

The Haunting of Nelson Street is a ghost story about a young couple fighting for their future and about a town trying to escape the clutches of its past.

Poor Narration....

The story itself was good, but the Narrator wasn't I'm afraid! I lost count of how many sentences were repeated and annotation was poor. probably best to read a copy rather than listen to the audible version

Let down by the narration

I like Amy Cross’ writing. Her stories really paint a picture in the mind and capture some truly eerie, ghostly (ok, scary) scenes!
Unfortunately this was a slog to listen to. The narrator failed to portray emotion or acting skills, which made it irritating to listen to.
It became difficult to differentiate between characters and the sound quality had a slight echo. It reminded me of being read to by a teacher in primary school? It didn’t serve as a soothing, atmospheric night time story, where it truly could have been if you were to curl up by a fire and read it as a physical book.

Narrator was absolutely awful

The narrator ruined this book and made it sound like it was a children's book. With the right narrator it could have been so much more exciting and climatic.

Can’t deal with the narrator

Sorry to sound harsh - not a bad performance but an unusual vocal type for the job

Terrible, unedited narration

I stuck with the painful narration because the story intrigued me and I like Amy Cross' books. Unfortunately it would appear that the narration was not edited, there were repeated sentences and lots of stumbling over words and phrases. It seemed like the narrator rushed through the reading get it done quickly. I'm glad it was free as if I'd paid for it I think I'd demand my money back!

Couldn’t wait to get to the end.

The title may confuse you as this is not a positive review. I honestly didn’t know what rating to go for. I’m afraid it was the narrator that spoiled it for me. It was like a kid reading in class. Very monotonous to the point that I kept drifting to do other things on my phone. If you get a new narrator I bet a lot more will read and review. I have listened to other books by Ms Cross and have enjoyed all of those.

The narration was poor

The reader was poor, the book isn't edited, quite a few repeated sentences and sounded as if it was recorded in a bathroom! Story not too bad but very similar to others written before this one. Glad it was free.

Disappointed

I looked forward to listening to another Amy Cross book - unfortunately what should have been a good listen was ruined by a very poor narrator. She sounded bored, and had no flow at all. In addition there were numerous repeats of sections - had anybody actually listened to this before it was accepted? Glad I didn’t pay for this one!!!

Liked the twist at the end

Good story that I feel could have been expanded even further. I felt the narrator was just reading rather than performing . Plus at least once a paragraph was repeated . I did like the twist at the end which was unexpected

Great story

I really enjoyed the story but the story teller was awful and needs to be re-done repeated parts of the book four or five times the story was entertaining and a good twist
