About this listen

Ishmael Jones is someone who can't afford to be noticed, someone who lives under the radar, who drives on the dark side of the road. He's employed to search out secrets, investigate mysteries and shine a light in dark places. Sometimes he kills people.

Invited by his employer, the enigmatic Colonel, to join him and his family for Christmas, Ishmael arrives at the grand but isolated Belcourt Manor in the midst of a blizzard to find that the Colonel has mysteriously disappeared. As he questions his fellow guests, Ishmael concludes that at least one of them - not least Ishmael himself - is harboring a dangerous secret, and that beneath the veneer of festive cheer lurk passion, jealousy, resentment and betrayal.

As a storm sets in, sealing off the Manor from the rest of the world, Ishmael must unmask a ruthless murderer before they strike again.

Intriguing

Audiobook, narrated by Gildart Jackson.
Ishmael Jones is someone who lives in the shadows, a monster hunter who works for a shadowy organisation. He gets an urgent message from his boss, the Colonel, to join the Colonel's family, the Belcourts, for a country house Christmas, he drives to Cornwall through a raging blizzard, arriving as the roads close down. The Colonel, who arrived the day before, appears to be missing. Ishmael and Penny, the Colonel's half-sister, go searching and find the Colonel, dead in the snow. The house-party is an odd mixture of family and hangers-on, all of them with grudges or motives for murder. And two of them are people out of Ishmael's past. Another murder follows, and then two more... The murderer must be one of the house-party guests or one of the two staff members who are not quite what they seem to be, but then, neither is Ishmael. This is a country house murder mystery with a supernatural twist. Gildart Jackson is an excellent reader, getting the dynamics of the story pitch-perfect.

A most fascinating storyline

I loved it. it reminded me of a cross between Cluedo, and an Agatha Christie novel. What a sub plot too. excellent story.
