Summary
Welcome back to Briar U!
Discover the next generation in this icy-hot spin-off series from The Queen of Hockey Romance, Elle Kennedy!
Listen to The Graham Effect now for the perfect grumpy x sunshine romance!
Hockey's golden girl just made a deal with the bad boy . . .
Gigi Graham has exactly three goals: qualify for the women's national hockey team, win Olympic gold, and step out of her famous father's shadow. So far, so good, except for two little things. Fine - a little thing and a big, grumpy thing. She needs to improve her game behind the net, and she needs help from Luke Ryder.
Ryder is six-foot five, built, opinionated, rude . . . and sexy as hell. But he's still the enemy.
Briar's new hockey co-captain has his reasons, though. The men's team just merged with a rival program, leaving Ryder with an angry roster where everyone hates one another's guts. To make matters worse, the summer coaching spot he's angling for with the legendary Garrett Graham is out of reach after he makes the worst possible first impression on his hero. So, really, this compromise with Gigi is win-win. He helps her make the national team, she puts in a good word with her dad.
The only potential snag? This bone-deep, body-numbing, mind-spinning chemistry they're trying to ignore. It's a dangerous game they're playing, but the risks just might be worth it.
Critic reviews
'Utterly adorable, completely charming, and sexy as hell, The Graham Effect has everything you'd want in a college romance - a grumpy/sunshine pairing, a very steamy 'steam room' scene, and a hockey-playing heroine!' Meghan Quinn
'Sexy hockey player? Check! Brand new series from Elle Kennedy? Check! The Graham Effect is a sexy, fun, delicious read, don't miss it!' Jill Shalvis
'The Graham Effect is peak Elle Kennedy writing - magnetic banter, intoxicating chemistry, and plenty of spice. I devoured this book in one sitting' K.A. Tucker

i felt like i was coming home
loved Gigi’s narrator, personally would have liked a deeper voice for Ryder but still enjoyed it
6/5
I’ve been laughing, crying, grinning and smiling since finishing this book. it was truly everything i wanted and so so so much more. the characters, the family, the bonds, laughs and jokes. the tender moments and the friendships, just made this all so perfect - i cant stop crying.
the off-campus series is engraved into my heart. those characters feel like my family, they bring me so much joy and happiness daily when I think about them and to be back with them and seeing them as parents, made me indescribably happy.
gigi was such a wonderful mfc. i loved that she inherited her passion for hockey from garrett and it was great seeing the challenges she faced with having such a famous dad. she was a perfect partner for ryder and she’s was just so cool.
ryder was so interesting, his backstory was devastating but my heart all but burst when hannah treated him as her own 🥹 he supported gigi and stood up for her, he grew a lot as a character and im really happy at the bonds he created and closure he got!
their relationship has the perfect blend of banter, chemistry, playfulness and tenderness. they were so well matched together and i am so happy with how their relationship played out!!
now garrett graham 😮💨 that man is the love of my life and seeing him in dilf mode did things to me 💐🫦😮💨🤭😩he’s so attractive, my word. i was so pleasantly surprised at how much he was in it. i was cackling at some of the scenes, he’s not lost his touch and i love him so much. ‘you can call me mr.graham’ ‘Do you realize I’m Garrett Graham?’ 😭🫶🏼 AND HE STILL CALLS HANNAH ‘WELLSY’ my heart exploded. i know people will probably be mad for how he reacted to the plot twist but i think it was so important to his character, to show that he’s still growing and learning to navigate life with his past but through parenthood. AND HIS TALK SHOW WITH JAKE. 1000000 stars for that alone.
seeing dean and logan was a treat 😩 and glimpses of their kids. cant wait to see more of them. and i was kicking and giggling when jake made appearances. garrett and Jake forever ✌️
this book make me feel everything. i laughed, cried, smiled, but i felt like i was home. im so excited for the next books to come and this was the perfect opening to the series.

Gigi Graham was the perfect blend of Garrett and Wellsy 😍
This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2023 and it did not disappoint! The Deal started my obsession with Hockey Romances and I’ve been DYING to get back into the Briar universe! Trust me, you are in for a treat with this Halloween release! 😉
Gigi Graham was the perfect blend of Garrett and Wellsy 😍 She has both her parents stubborn streak, along with her dad’s competitiveness and her mom’s quick wit. I also love how Garrett got away with naming her after himself 🤣 She was such a fun character! She was utter sunshine with an obsession with butterflies, but I especially loved her strength and drive to be the best. Also, how cool is it that she’s also a D1 hockey player?! Thank you Elle for showing the girl power! 💪🏼
Luke Ryder, three words - Grumpy Hockey Player 😍 Grumpy x Sunshine is one of my top tropes and Ryder was the perfect grump! I loved each insight into his background and watching his character unfold! Understanding him as a person, seeing his growth and watching him learn how to be a good teammate and captain in the midst of a fierce rivalry between Eastwood and Briar. I just loved him so much! And his protectiveness after the plot twist… swoon! 🫠
This book lived up to every expectation I had, and then some! I loved all the cameos of the OG Off Campus characters and getting an insight into their lives post Briar hockey. This book really set the scene for the rest of the Campus Diaries and many more next generation stories, and I’m here for them all! 😍

Love, love, love
I loved this visit back to the Off Campus world, a generation later. Hockey romance is definitely where Elle Kennedy’s strength lies. I really enjoyed the story & as always, Teddy Hamilton is the perfect narrator for this story on Audible! 4.4/5 😊

For All fans of Hannah and Graham
With Hannah and Garrett being my ultimate favorite Elle Kennedy couple, I had HIGH expectations - and they were met.
The MCs had memorable personalities and great chemistry
The supporting cast was as it should in a first book in a series with lots of potential for a great series
It is her best hockey romance since the off campus series (better than briar U)
As always outstanding job from these talented narrators 🥰
Spoiler:
Only negative was the overused foster kid trope.

A great return to Briar U
I haven’t loved all of the Briar U/Off Campus series, however this is one of the better ones.
I have a few issues with some of the stuff in there in relation to Garrett and his feelings towards Ryder; since when was he so judgmental? This is the guy who physically attacked his GFs abuser, so he knows that sometimes violence has a rationale and as such he should be able to recognise that Ryder is not the violent type. Secondly he was best friends with Logan who came from a somewhat unfortunate background, so again he isn’t the type to be judgmental. So for me his characterisation in this lets the whole book down a bit. However it didn’t spoil my overall enjoyment.
I loved both Gigi and Ryder, I also loved that there wasn’t a third act break up - hurrah! I’m so sick of this in virtually every romance I listen to or read. I loved the grumpy/sunshine, the banter between the boys (can’t wait to read Shane and Becketts stories). I found the girls a bit one dimensional if I’m honest, but there was enough going on to detract from this. So overall great story and well worth a credit.
Both narrators did a great job, and played both characters really well. I love Audible as the narration almost always adds to the overall enjoyment and this didn’t disappoint.

Gigi and Ryder♡
I have been a big fan of the off campus and briar u series. So I was nervously excited to see an extension of those series with Garrett and Hannahs daughter Gigi. The start was a bit slow. I hated Garrett and Coach Jensen at the start. I did nt like the carry on between Eastwood and Briar much either. And the whole oh so happy and extremely successful 'extended family' vibe was a bit nauseating...But slowly, slowly it turned so so good. Full of feels. I loved Gigi and Ryder together. I will go as far as to say this could be my new favourite of all of them. Can't wait for the next one.
