About this listen
Spark is light, Spark is magic, Spark is power.
Spark is everything and it blooms inside the bodies of Tau City’s young women. Once a decade, in exchange for enough power to keep the city modern and comfortable, a Spark Maiden must be sacrificed to their mysterious tower god in a ritual called The Extraction.
Ten Maidens are Chosen, but only one enters the tower as a sacrifice, never to be seen again. The nine leftovers are elevated to celebrity status and spend the next decade living in the luxurious Maiden Tower, wearing couture gala gowns, and partying with the city’s most interesting and beautiful people. Every young woman in Tau City wants to be a Spark Maiden because the odds have always been in their favor.
Until now.
One by one, the greedy god has summoned the leftover Spark Maidens into sacrifice. When Clara Birch, Spark Maiden number nine, gets the call, she fully expects her fiancé, Finn Scott, the Extraction Master’s son, to save her.
Spoiler alert: He’s not going to.
At the same time, a rebellion is brewing. The forgotten underclass is plotting the end of the god and his tower with strategically-placed Rebel spies that will bring it all down. Jasina Bell is a young woman on a mission to make history and she will stop at nothing to get the fame she deserves.
When Clara is forced into the tower against her will, she makes an unexpected discovery. There is no god—just a man, one willing to do what Finn Scott wouldn’t: save Clara Birch.
Even if it means destroying the entire world to do so.
Betrayal and sacrifice, loyalty and power plays—four people are entangled across time and space as they seek truth, freedom, and true love in this wild and twisted adult romantasy that will have listeners breathlessly listening until the final tick.

Lovely
I found this a really enjoyable listen. I enjoyed most of the book but the second part was when I really got hooked into the story.

OhMiGosh 🥰 … This Story was extraordinarily & totally out of this world.
Loved every second, while me (over here) falling hopelessly “in love” with Eric Nolan’s amazing voice. And J A HASS’s brilliance in his dialog, it was so refreshingly funny.
Many character bantering can leave much to be desired — however, here I couldn’t help myself, sniggering & outright giggling on many occasions.
Endearing characters. Brilliant, well thought-out plot. Rich & imaginative world, excellent narrative and well written. Plus extensive and relatable character & their development. Made all the difference.
ALL THE STARS. ⭐️
If you are considering (still not sure) on choosing & spending a credit on this 📕 book
Don’t (period)!
Even (period)!
Think (period)!
Just spend the credit. 🫶🏽 You can thank me later. It was an incredible listen. Don’t be surprise, once you get to “Part Two” of said great story that, the whole trajectory of the landscape changes and you might find you ain’t got nothing better to do than stop your whole day (promptly) as you exclusively follow this dystopian/fantasy tale. Utterly unique, in every possible way.
Enjoy 🫶🏽💕
Ps; I can’t wait for book 📕 2 to drop.

It was OK
For me it was too slow. Too much talking and too much pondering. Good characters though. It was saved by different narrators, and they did an excellent job.

Fantastic!
There’s a lot to take in as this complex and exciting, fantasy world makes known its secrets, and as the story unfolds, revelations, truths and lies are revealed. JA Huss writes fantastic characters but her kid characters are always my favourite. They are as adorable as they are dangerous, and in this case the narrator brought her to life brilliantly. It’s an intriguing start to the series and I’m very much looking forward to more Sparktopia in the future.
