About this listen

The fourth China Thriller, from the million-selling Peter May - author of the Richard and Judy best seller The Blackhouse.

Suffocated

A vehicle crammed with dozens of dead Chinese immigrants is found in Southern Texas. Pathologist Margaret Campbell must put aside her horror and find out why.

Summoned

Detective Li Yan - an even more unwelcome memory for Campbell - has arrived stateside to investigate a link in the case to a lucrative trade in illegal labourers.

Snakehead

Yan and Campbell will soon find that the crime scene hides another secret: a biological time bomb linking traffickers, politicians and migrants in Beijing, Washington and Texas - posing multiple countries one very singular threat.

Great start, poor ending

Starts great, gripping story fades into a swift and simple ending. The other books are better in this series, have all of them. Narrator is brilliant as ever.

Must. Buy. Next. Book.

Another exceptional story and narration by the dream team. I really loved this book and I actually enjoy that I work out what will happen. Mostly impressed by how badass Margaret and Lee are getting!

Disappointed

I've 'read' the preceding books in The China series and enjoy the pacy narrative and the performance but, even though this book is very apposite, I immediately guessed the 'baddie' and the trigger. I thought they were really obvious from very early on. It won't stop me listening to more Peter May books though.

Excellent

Loved this, the 5th book in the series. Love the characters, who all sound so different because of the excellent narration. I think the research done into Chinese culture is very good - I’ve learnt so much!
And of course the story of Margaret and Lee is so exciting and frustrating at the same time. I can’t wait to listen to No 6 The Man with No Face

Another brilliant Peter May

I think Peter May is one of the brilliant novelists of our time. This 4th of the China series is set in the USA but still with the two main characters. When May writes about a place you are transported to the place and almost feel what it is like to be there. The narration is superb once again by the wonderful Peter Forbes. The story is fast moving and so well researched as always with his books. One learns about something every time with Peter May.

Another excellent story

I have read a handful of Peter May’s novels and they don’t disappoint. As soon as I finished this one I was aching to read the next in the China series.
Peter Forbes is an excellent narrator
