About this listen

If you grew up with an emotionally immature, unavailable, or selfish parent, you probably still struggle with anger, sadness, resentment, or shame. As a child, your emotional needs were not met, your feelings were dismissed, and you likely took on adult levels of responsibility in an effort to compensate for your parent's behavior. Somewhere along the way, you lost your sense of self. And without this strong sense of self, you may feel like your own well-being isn't valuable.

In this compassionate guide you'll find tips and tools to help you set boundaries with others, honor and validate your emotions, and thrive in the face of life's challenges. You'll discover how to protect yourself from hurtful behavior, stop making excuses for others' limitations, forge healthier relationships, and feel more confident in your life. Most importantly, you'll learn how to stop putting others' needs before your own and manage daily stressors.

Self-care means honoring and respecting the self. But when you grow up with emotionally immature parents, you are taught that setting limits is selfish and uncaring. You are taught to seek approval instead of authenticity in relationships. But there's another way to go through life - one in which you can take care of yourself, first and foremost. Let this book guide you toward a new way of being.

I enjoyed the depth and breadth of what was covered. The explanation of stressaholic really stood out for me. I have listened to many self help books and never heard it described in this way and it totally made sense to me how addicted to the stress hormones I had become.

The breakdown into short chapters of the content made it more digestible

Every book by L Gibson is a gem. I've listened to two so far, and have more lined up. I recommend them to my therapy clients. Clear, insightful and practical.

An inspiring and comprehensive guide to emotional intelligence

I found this really useful and interested to get the next one. Need to get a book on trauma now though as actually bit of a revelation that family life was dysfunctional and depression comes from that. Love to all xo

The book is good. The tone of voice is not mij cup of tea, it made it hard for me to listen. But that is personal. Overall I love the work of LINDSAY C. GIBSON she is really amazing and her books gave me a lot of tools and support in my healing journey form EI parents.

Insightful

This was quite long and mostly I felt covered by the main book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature parents if not directly then easily applicable to the scenarios in this book, despite that there were a couple of chapters that instantly helped me see a problem differently and have already changed my behaviour for the better, so for me it was worth listening to this as well.

Really helpful self help book
