About this listen

From the Sunday Times No. 1 Bestselling Author

Douglas Murray, international bestselling author and renowned cultural commentator confronts what he views as the most pressing issue of our time: why Western support of the Palestinian cause is ultimately playing into the hands of a much more dangerous force.

Drawing from intensive on-the-ground reporting in Israel, Gaza and Lebanon, Murray presents a compelling case that places the latest violence in its historical context. He takes readers on a harrowing journey through the aftermath of the 7 October 2023 massacre, piecing together exclusive accounts from victims, survivors and even the terrorists responsible for the atrocities.

On Democracies and Death Cults argues that Israel’s commitment to fundamental Western values – capitalism, individual rights, democracy and reason – has made it a beacon of progress in a region dominated by authoritarianism and extremism. Murray contrasts Israel’s principles with the ideology of Hamas, which openly proclaims its love of death over life. If left unchecked, Murray argues, this misplaced Western sympathy could embolden forces that seek to undermine democratic values and perpetuate a culture of violence.

Clear-eyed and deeply reasoned, On Democracies and Death Cults is a gripping and essential read for all who seek to understand the complexities of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and its implications for the future of democracy – and for the world itself.

Much of the content of this book is known but equally much is denied or ignored. DM's first hand account of the 7th October, war between Israel and the Iranian proxies - Hamas, Hesbollah, Houties as well as Iran itself - puts the conflict into perspective. DM does seem to marvel at how elements of the West have taken on antisemitism, somehow making Israel's existential fight, the cause. I can only hope that some of the death cult supporters manage to bring themselves to read this book, if only to t understand the context of the war. Brilliant in every way.

Should be compulsary reading at Universities

I had my reservations before listening to this— I don’t agree with Murray on everything, particularly his support of Trump— but I found this a sober & heartbreaking account of October 7th and its aftermath. Murray’s firsthand investigative reporting is brilliantly written & full of his trademark moral clarity. His analysis of the war, its origins, its historical context & the way in which it has been conducted is thorough & persuasive.

Part sober account of Oct 7th, part impassioned defense of Israel.

Perfectly calibrated. Listen to the end. I’ll let the book talk for itself. Let there be love.

The depth of analysis and research to try and understand the reasons for the widespread hatred of Jewish people - which remains inexplicable.
The human brain must be the most underdeveloped organ in the body, often devoid of the ability to make rational decisions based upon analysis and understanding.

A thought provoking analysis

This was a hard listen at times, with the details of the atrocities and the unjust reactions of the world being hard to take in. But it is a great book and worth reading even if only to take you out of the echo chamber of the MSM reporting. Many points I have mulled over myself were eloquently detailed here and possible reasons given but even if you don’t agree with the general viewpoint there is most definitely food for thought here.

It is a hard thing to read or listen to this truth. It made me cry with sorrow. It made me cry with joy. ultimately though, it gave me hope.

Thank you, Douglas.

Thank you Israel, for standing up and standing tall.

A truth that must be shared

A thoroughly well researched, whip-smart analysis of the Holocaust-denial we’ve seen since the atrocities of 7/10/23. Douglas Murray is not just a hero for Jewish people but for thinking and caring people everywhere. What he describes is quite simply a war between good and evil. We should all choose life.

The most important book of this year
