About this listen
The greatest adventure is coming back home.
Lila Metcalfe is a trainee journalist in Derby and she's very used to being given the stories that no one else wants. So, when her editor tells her that the city's Cossington Park development is being held up by a solitary resident on Hope Street who is refusing to leave, she knows she is going to be the one sent to find out more. And that's how she meets Connor.
Twenty-something Connor is the sole resident of Hope Street and he is not at all what Lila is expecting. And he has a very clear reason not to move: he is waiting for his mum to come home.
The uplifting and heartfelt new novel from the author of A Song of Me and You.

Mike Gayle does it again
Absolutely amazing story, I find myself thinking that Mike Gayle seems to understand humans emotions and behaviour so intrinsically he manages to write the most amazing stories about them. As an avid Mike Gayle enthusiast since discovering his work a couple of years ago I devoured this book in one day! Everything else can wait! Beautiful! The tears were worth it

Brilliant in every way
Heartwarming story, great narration, one of those books that makes you feel you know and care about the characters....and somehow bereft when it ends.

Enchanting story - brilliant
This is the first time I have read a book by this author. Don’t want to give away the plot, yet this is an excellent story and will relate to many in different ways.

Couldn’t stop listening.
I literally couldn’t stop listening to this and finished it in a couple of days, there were a couple of bits that were a bit predictable but despite that I absolutely loved this book. I loved the characters and the way the story developed. I would 100% recommend this book.

The best Mike Gayle book!
I've read/listened to a lot of Mike Gayle books and always enjoy them but this is the best yet. Warm and intriguing I've listened to it all in 24 hours! Whilst the character of Lila took some time to warm to, I instantly cared for Connor ~ and the actor narrating his chapters is great. The whole book is brilliantly written, well performed and very emotive. I highly recommend it.

perfect characters and excellent narration
The characters are strong, the story is brilliant.
I loved Connor's unwavering faith his mum would not leave him. Everyone needs a friend like Marcus. Lila is great, as are the lesser characters like Alan and Katie. There were times when I could feel panic in what i knew was coming with some less likable people! To date, I have said 'the man I think I know' by Mike Gayle is my favourite but this is on a par, to be fair I love ALL his books, starting many many years ago with 'Dinner for two' give this a go, yiu won't regret it! also, hats off to the narrators, they were perrect for the characters. I'm a very happy listener
