Summary

From My Legendary Girlfriend to Turning Forty, Mike Gayle's bestselling novels have taken his millions of fans through many key times for the modern man - friendship, courtship, stag weekends, marriage, work, holidays, significant birthdays - but Seeing Other People is perhaps his most compelling, engaging and bittersweet novel yet.

Father of two Joe Clarke is about seventy-eight per cent sure he's just had an affair. After all that is the hopelessly attractive office intern in bed next to him, isn't it? But then again if he did have an affair why can't he remember anything at all about the night in question?

Mortified by his mistake Joe vows to be a better man, but when his adored wife Penny puts two and two together and leaves him, things start to take a turn for the decidedly strange. Joe is told for a fact that he didn't have an affair after all. He just thinks he did. Which is great news...or at least it would be if the person who'd just delivered it wasn't the crisp eating, overly perfumed and mean-spirited ghost of his least favourite ex-girlfriend.

Seeing Other People is a hilarious and bittersweet audiobook about love, parenthood and fidelity and how easy it is to get lost on the way to your own happy ending.

Was she a ghost or was he dreaming?

I really enjoyed this book the appearance of Joe’s former now deceased girlfriend was bothering Joe a little bit especially as she seems to have appeared after he has made the ‘biggest mistake of his life’ or has he?

Did he really do what he believes he has done or was he dreaming it? As the story unfolds things are getting worse for Joe but can he make things right or is there another story that is yet to be revealed?

I try not to put spoilers in my reviews so I’m not going to expand on that all the twists and turns of the plot kept my interest and I enjoyed it so much I ‘read’ this in 2 days.

Loved it!

A bit predictable towards the end but a heartwarming tale! Really enjoyed the book and looking forward to my next Mike Gayle book

A bit frustrating and disappointing

I'm sad to say, as much as I like Mike Gayle, this story really wasn't great. I found it a bit tedious and ridiculous (in a frustrating way). I almost gave up several times but because I'd paid for it I felt I should continue until the end. I spent much of it wishing it would finish so I could start a better book.

To give it credit, the narrator was great and made it much more palatable. I would not say this is awful and a waste of time, but I certainly wish I'd spent my credit on something else!

Oh?

I came to this book following close on the heels of previous works by the author, expecting the same sort of emotional roller coaster page turner.
This one didn’t work for me. As I read I’m usually second guessing the twists and turn that lay ahead, not this time, there didn’t seem to be any. I found myself wanting to slap the main character, who seemed to deserve everything he was getting.
A shame.

What a great story and narrator!!!

You will love it. The characters are brought to life by one of the best narrators I've ever listened to.

I was late for work many times!!!

Absolutely loved this book

Any additional comments?

I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. Loved the main character - very likeable considering his "mischief". I listened to this on audio book and I thought the actor was great - loved his London and New Zealand accents. Great story, plenty of twists and turns. The young boy in the story was adorable.

Want To Slap Him Round The Face With A Wet Fish

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not really. It was way too sentimental and yeuky for me. I only got it because it was on offer.

What will your next listen be?

Something entirely different.

What three words best describe David Morley Hale’s performance?

Bit Julian Clary

Did Seeing Other People inspire you to do anything?

Force myself to keep listening so I would get it finished and could move on to something new.

Any additional comments?

Don't bother unless you like sentimental, daft stories in which you don't mind people who take the path clearly marked 'Stupid'.

Not his best

I'm a new fan of Mr Gayle's, All the Lonely People my favourite at the moment.
Although it was well written, in his usual captivating style, extremely well performed. The storyline was confusing and a little way out there for me.

Oh and just a side note. Suicide is no longer illegal - therefore, one can't "commit" it.
