About this listen
Workaholic Detective Aiden Carlisle isn't looking for love - and certainly not at the law-enforcement seminar she reluctantly agreed to attend. But the first lecturer is not at all what she expected.
Psychologist Dawn Kinsley has just found her place in life. After a failed relationship with a police officer, she has sworn never to get involved with another cop again, but she feels a connection to Aiden from the very first moment.
Can Aiden keep herself from crossing the line when a brutal crime threatens to keep them apart before they've even gotten together?
Contains mature themes.

Brilliant story and beautifully narrated
This is a really slow burn but you can feel the love building up between this couple. Highly recommended

Should really have more detail in the content notes
I was really shocked that there is explicit description and discussion of rape and sexual abuse in this book. The content note says “mature themes” but that could mean many things. I feel strongly the notes should be updated as the topic is upsetting and triggering.

A beautiful, life affirming love affair of a book.
A more mature work than many others in this genre but still very readable.
Some of the narrators male voices are a bit off but this is more than compensated by her exquisite rendition of the growing intimacy between the two lovers.
I would definitely agree with other comments re the inadequacy of the
" Contains mature themes" warning.
Although this novel's message is positive, the content, particularly early on, could be very triggering.

This story kept me gripped to the last word. The author really drew me into the lives of Dawn and Aiden, their friends, families work lives. This truly was a wonderful book.

Wonderful love story
The frustration felt by the heroine Aiden when the woman she was strongly attracted to became the victim of an extremely brutal hate crime was so well written I just couldn't stop reading. Jae is now responsible for my losing manyhours of sleep lol. I'm still only half way through but totally hooked on the slowly developing relationship between the main characters, and Abby Craden just has to be one of the best narrators I've heard so far, she tells the story so well. And although I've not finished the book yet I've already bought Book 2. Please Jae, let's have more in this series

Topic
Someone said it contains rape. The majority of the book is about it. So avoid if this is too sensitive topic.
But, if it does not bother you, this book well written and well read.
I highly recommend it

Warning, there might be triggers for some people
I have listened to this story twice already. I love the slow pace, the realistic feelings of someone who's gone through trauma. Not something to listen to if you are going through a period of acute anxiety (I certainly couldn't). Great writing too. Jae has never disappointed me yet (hopefully that'll never happen)
