Summary

Irish mafia from the streets of Dublin to the highest echelons of global organised crime and right into the heart of professional boxing.

When a weigh-in turns into a gangland bloodbath, the tables begin to turn on the powerful Kinahan Organised Crime Group. But is it too late to tame the beast, or can the law finally catch up with the mob?

Best-selling author and award-winning crime journalist Nicola Tallant brings the listener on her own journey of discovery as she delves into the dangerous underworld where a golden era of cocaine turned a brat pack of street dealers into an international mafia.

With a unique insight into the rise of mob and its reach into boxing through a tapestry of confidential informants and some too-close-for-comfort experiences, Tallant brings to life one of the most extraordinary stories in modern organised crime.

Following the trail from the local authority estates of the Irish capital to the gilded mansions of Dubai, Clash of the Clans: The Rise of the Irish Narcos and Boxing’s Dirty Secret powers through the intriguing tale of the cocaine cowboys and the rivalries that threaten to bring down an empire.

Enjoyable.

Having grown up around quite a few of the characters in this book ; I can testify to its authenticity. An in depth analysis of how certain groups became entangled. Worth a listen. Narrator needs to check some pronunciations though.

Good book filled with what seems like very in-depth journalism.

I enjoyed the construction of the book but found the narration both uninspiring and at times unprofessionally edited, into indifferent sounding segments and poorly read sentences.

If i were Nicola i would want to get this reread and edited more professionally and to a lot higher standard.

Fascinating stories, terrible narration

Uncovers the fascinating and terrifying Irish crime underworld. Narration by someone learning to read.

A compelling book.

I’ve been a fan of Nicola Tallant since her guest appearances on “The Stand with Eamon Dunphy” and latterly her own “Crime World” podcast.
The story of the Kinehan Organised Crime Group is fascinating, and is like something devised by David Chase.
She’s the greatest crime journalist Ireland has produced and her coverage of the Kinehans is her Magnum Opus.
Unfortunately, she doesn’t narrate this herself. Sue Parks rushes somewhat and some of her shoddy literal pronunciations should have been caught by an editor.

Excellent

I saw the headline and bought the book. Great insight into how boxing and corruption are like 2 peas and a pod. Especially for anyone good at it

Informative book but painful narration.

You would need to be generally familiar with the feud because the timeline of the book jumps around quite a bit. It does go into interesting detail however and was an easy read/listen.

For a book that requires so many uses of the word Gardaí you would think they would get it right, but no. The word Garda is used for everything be it singular or plural "members of the Garda arrived" etc. Just one example of many errors/mispronunciations. After a while it does detract from the book.
