Summary

On the streets of the tough Dublin inner-city neighbourhood where he grew up, Gerry Hutch was perceived as an ordinary decent criminal, a quintessential Robin Hood figure who fought the law—and won. To the rest of the world he was an elusive criminal godfather called the Monk: an enigmatic criminal mastermind and the hunted leader of one side in the deadliest gangland feud in Irish criminal history.

The latest book from Ireland's leading crime writer Paul Williams reveals the inside story of Hutch's war with former allies the Kinahan cartel, and how the once untouchable crime boss became a fugitive on the run from the law and the mob—with a 1 million bounty on his head.

The Monk is an enthralling account of the rise and fall of a modern-day gangster, charting the violent journey of an impoverished kid from the ghetto to the top tier of gangland—until it all went wrong.

Decent listen if you’re interested in that sort of thing and well narrated.
On going as well, so they’ll be more in the future, no doubt

The Best Audio Book I Have Ever Listened To

I saw this Man mentioned in the film Veronica Guerin, but had no idea that he was as violent & ruthless as he is with so many murders attributed to him and huge armed robberies under his belt I'm surprised his part in the film was so small.
The thing I like about this is that unlike many books of this genre it doesn't start with his early life and blah, blah, blah as listening to hours of what people did at school and where they grew up etc doesn't interest me and I believe it's used as a filler a lot of the time for people that only have one or two main life events that have defined who they are and don't have much more of a story to tell, whereas this starts right into the action from the get go and only briefly brushes his early childhood in a couple of parts of the book, instead concentrating on a Man that seemed to have a major event happen every few weeks that could each be a book in themselves.
It's gritty and pulls no punches about his violent life surrounded by murders on all sides, armed robberies and battles with the authorities at the highest levels.
Gerry Hutch should have a film made about his life as it would be a blockbuster...

If it’s Irish Gangland you’re after…

Can’t do much better than this. Would love to see a few more of Williams’ and other books on the topic get added to the platform.
