the narrator had me in stiches, laughing. Unsure if it was meant to be intentionally funny but his delivery cracked me up.

Brilliant insight into the life of a fighter, the sacrifices and the sharks that surround them. Thankfully Carl came out alright on the other side, many others end up penniless and broken. Really enjoyed listening to this book.

Frampton v mc guigan: battle of the polar opposites!
First time i seen Carl was in the holy family, down in the bottom left corner skipping away facing the wall, he was brought over to spar, he was to much for all the kids except one who gave him probably his first bit of resistence ever in the ring.
Firstly Gerry storey, is a man like Micky Kelly from the dockers week in week out bringing kids on, for the love of the sport and the good of the community, but Carl may not know this, when Barney Eastwood went to Gerry with a mind to create a champion, he was interested a guy called mc Allister, whos granda fought under Patsy Quinn, jerry asked Eastwood to have a look at mc Guigan instead... And got Mc Guigan his break.
Carls Da, had a story in the book about Mc Guigan waiting on 20p change at the bar, ironically enough i have a Mc Guigan 20p story also: many many years ago my kid brother and his mate one december morning running up to christmas turned over and old piece of wasteground beside castle street into a carpark, brushed the place up off glass etc, and looked after the cars that parked there, and charged 20p: they were only kids age 11 , the day in particular there was two inches of frost on the ground baltic, Mc guigan parked his car and as he was leaving the kids asked him for an autograph, he in turn asked them if they didnt charge him the 20p, they could have the autograph they took the money!
Thats the price of Mc guigan 20p, many years later Mc Guigan was coming to the holy family my son was interested in boxing and actually sparred Carl there and held his own, only children at the time, Jerry said to me Barry mc Guigan is calling over tonight would the son like to meet him? I said he probably would Jerry but i woudnt like him to meet him.
I was in a boxing shop on the Antrim road many years later about something, i seen you peeping out from the store Frampton you were working there, you nosey wee f###er ye, just letting you now i clocked you lol.
Frampton is the only protestant i know, that 9 out 10 catholics prefer to a catholic to called Mc Guigan, if you can do that in Belfast your special....good luck in your retirement your a good kid!

Great story and the whole mcguigans case was absolutely fascinating. Whilst there are two sides to every story it’s very clear from the minutes of the court and the fact the case was settled just how unethical they behaved. Completely shameful. The narrator also clearly not a boxing fan based on his pronunciation of pacquiao (packaw) but this entertained me.

I really enjoyed this autobiography. Boxers have their own approach to telling their story and this one is very engaging. There is lots of candid detail about his fights which I like. He also sheds light of some of the dodgy goings on behind the scenes. I would definitely recommend a read.

I'm a big boxing fan, more so for the heavyweights really but i do read/listen to all boxers books and I can honestly say this book was one of the funniest I've listened to. Carl's humour really comes through and is a great listen. thanks Carl for telling your story, top book. top boxer and a top bloke. cheers mate

As a local from the area, it was great to get the full story about the McGuigans, also to hear some of the old stories about people from the area I also know. Crazy how ill advised Carl was about the financial side of things though. Perhaps an opportunity for something a bit more formal to be set up at Midland BC or similar to on occasion advise young boxers how that side of the game works. Guessing Carl would support this.

Great story, very well told. Carl is so relatable and likeable I’m glad the snakes got caught out by the jackal in the end. Would highly recommend
