About this listen

One fateful summer evening, businessman Robin Timariot meets a strikingly beautiful woman while out walking. They exchange only a few words, but those words prove to be unforgettable. A few days later, the newspapers are full of the rape and murder of Lady Louise Paxton - and to his horror, Timariot realises that this was the woman he met just hours before her death.

A man is swiftly charged and convicted of the crime, but a series of bizarre events begin to convince Timariot that all is not what it seems. Against his better judgment, he is soon sucked into the tortuous complexity of the dead woman's life. But the closer Timariot gets to the truth, the more hideous and uncertain it seems to be. And far too late, he realises that anybody who uncovers it is unlikely to live....

very satisfying tale

as usual, Robert Goddard has a well thought out plot with some interesting twists although I did manage to partly solve the mystery before the end. Nevertheless this is a really good listen .

Great mystery

I really enjoyed this and thought it was well thought out with the narrative unfolding at a good pace. The ending might have been somewhat predictable but there were still some twists and it was well plotted and performed.

Classic Goddard

Great story with lots of twists and turns. Good plot which held together altho i lost track of some minor characters. Telfer reads Goddard's books really well with all the right accents and expression. Thankyou.

Disappointing

This is the first novel by Robert Goddard that I didn’t really care for. All his books have depth, with excellent characters and vocabulary, and they are all pretty long. This book was too long, and by the time I finished it, I found the ending quite far fetched and unbelievable. All of his book are deep and take time to unfold and usually I enjoy them, unfortunately not this one.

Gripping plot with excellent narration - a compulsive listen

The storyline, is when one steps back, wildly implausible, but despite this I was gripped from the start, and the many plot twists keep one wanting to know “the truth”. Brilliantly narrated.

Well worth the listening time.

Rich, complex and deep. A novel that makes one constantly reassess our original take on what will happen next. Very enjoyable, as a story as well as the narration.
If this is the worst collaboration between Messrs. Goddard and Telfer, then I shall anticipate future books with baited breath.

Quite a good book. Very twisty and turny!

I enjoyed this, and found the twists and turns quite engaging and exciting, making me want to listen to more to see what was going to happen next.
I'm not keen on books that flip from now to the past and back and forth. I like things in chronological order.
Not bad at all, though, and worth a listen, even though it's a bit far-fetched and silly in places.

Not his best

The malability of the hero, swayed this way and that by the other characters eventually got to me.
I just wanted to tell him to grow up and be responsible for his own decisions.

All the twists!

Initially I thought this wasn’t going to be a book I’d enjoy, but I carried on regardless.. finding myself utterly absorbed until the very end! So many plot twists, really kept me on my toes!
