本書為聖嚴法師在美國佛法開示班中針對唐代石頭希遷禪師的參同契和洞山良价禪師的寶鏡三昧歌所做的開示石頭希遷的參同契與洞山良价的寶鏡三昧歌一向被公認為是曹洞宗最重要的兩篇著作參同契為一首五言偈頌共二百二十字此偈內容點出修行者唯有藉由不斷地精進修行破除煩惱才能使自心如皎潔的一輪明月寶鏡三昧歌則是一首四言偈頌共三百七十六字全詩告訴我們人人皆有自性寶鏡只因被煩惱遮蔽而失去映照能力若能拭去心鏡上的塵埃寶鏡即能再顯明淨在複雜多變的現代社會若能善解運用參同契及寶鏡三昧歌的禪理並在生活中時時修行即能化煩惱為菩提體驗真正的禪悅聖嚴法師的精進默照禪中國曹洞宗的修行心要有時我看到自己的煩惱像冬
