Corilan is happier on Organic Earth (OE) than she ever could’ve imagined. She’s bonded to Earthos and raising their family, but something is wrong in the schools. Things begin to occur that have never happened in OE before. She’s afraid they have crossed beyond the tipping point and that their idyllic life is gone forever.

A reckless driver tries to cut in front of Jayle, but she refuses to let that happen. The driver blows his horn loud and long as she passes by him. She turns into the parking lot, finds a spot, and parks. When she gets out, the same man is parked across the back of her parking space yelling at her. Seeing his red, angry face, she turns and goes around the front of her car toward the store. Jayle falls asleep later at home and awakens, frightened by what she's seen. She's sure it's not a dream. She was there and saw a dead body in a box. Where? How was that possible? What did it mean?

Colleen is a God-fearing woman, committed to her religious beliefs, and refuses to do anything against them, even if it means she’ll be fired from her job. Her son, Sam, thinks this is absurd and tells her so, but she remains steadfast. When she gets a new job, something happens that she never would have imagined.

Glo has been out of high school for three years but has remained friends with some of the high schoolers. Living in dysfunctional families—as she had while in high school—she has allowed them to spend time at her place, hoping they will miss some of the pitfalls that could prevent them from graduating high school. When their prospects for summer jobs crash, she takes them on an exploration hike through the woods that changes everything.

Lyla’s in love with Walter and believes she will do anything to keep him—at least she thinks she will. Rhonda loves to go partying and clubbing—especially on ladies' night. When one of the male dancers comes to her table, it doesn’t end well when he returns to the stage.

Thelma and Ezra have decided it is time to move forward with their plans to have a family, but first they need to move to a larger living space. When Thelma finds her “home sweet home” and they make it so, things begin to change in unsettling ways. Ezra sees what’s happening, but Thelma doesn’t - not really. He must find a way to save them before it’s too late.

Raekon, Sovereign of Organic Earth, is informed of a problem within the barricaded region known as Thistlebriar. He and the assembly members are distraught on hearing of the abuse and killings of people called meeks, revealed by an informer. Raekon decides to send a team of spies to Thistlebriar to investigate. Life on Organic Earth has been peaceful, until now. Go with Raekon and Corilan and discover where the School of Ancestral Guidance Saga ends.

An invisible force is beating citizens. No one knows why. Chief Wen of Harmony Services blames the Lumenians. President Bartle directs his advisor, Raekon, to hire the legacy Earth rescue five to investigate. Invisibility makes the odds of success slim, if at all.

Arriving in the passage is a frightful, uncertain experience where unknowns abound. It is a strange place, and many are alarmed at the things they learn. Dissension between organizational members and allegiants keep them apart. Corilan and Swain work to find ways to smooth the friction while Jacob works on his own solutions. They can't succeed in Organic Earth if they don't unite.

Corilan is very upset by Earth's rapidly deteriorating condition and is determined to do something about it. How to make this happen? She's not sure. When her father, Nolan, contacts her after 20 years of absence, she learns of his birthright and her heritage in the School of Ancestral Guidance organization. Their commitment to Earth conservation coincides with her goals for Earth, so she joins.
