Anne Carson is "the most exciting poet writing in English today", said Michael Ondaatje. Carson, an essayist and classicist, is the author of many collections and translations, including Decreation, The Beauty of the Husband, Eros the Bittersweet, and Autobiography of Red. Her translations of four plays by Euripides are collected in Grief Lessons. Carson returns to the Poetry Center to perform her pieces "Cassandra Float Can" and "Lecture on Pronouns".

Since 1998, the Alfred A. Knopf Publishing Group has celebrated National Poetry Month by e-mailing a poem a day throughout the month of April to over 25,000 devoted poetry fans. On May 2, 1963, Robert Killins, a former United Church minister, slaughtered every woman in his family but one. She (and her brother) lived to tell the story of what motivated a talented man who had been widely admired, a scholar and graduate from Queen's University, to stalk and terrorize the women in his family for almost twenty years and then murder them. Through extensive oral histories, Cook and Carson painstakingly trace the causes of a femicide in which four women and two unborn babies were murdered over the course of one bloody evening.
