ومن خلال (خالد زوال) بطل هذه الرواية الذي ابتكره الكاتب – الراوي وتماهى معه في منولوجاته وعوالمه، والذي اضطر للعمل كبحار على ظهر سفينة يونانية، نتحرك وننتقل بين هموم وتداعيات شريحة من الشباب العرب وجدت نفسها مطاردة ومضطهدة من الفقر والحكومات ما جعلها تتشرد بين المنافي حاملة معها أفكارها وهواجسها وأحلامها ومخاوفها. تميزت الرواية، إلى جانب امتلاكها روح الشد والتشويق، من خلال حبكة متقنة، بروح سخرية من واقع استلاب المواطن في المنافي كما في البلاد العربية.
