Summary
This audiobook is passionately and evocatively read by the author, Heidi Mavir.
An updated edition of the Sunday Times bestseller.
Your Child Is Not Broken is THE book for parents who need permission to do things differently.
An unapologetic, deeply moving manual for parents of neurodivergent children from Heidi Mavir, a late-identified, neurodivergent adult and parent to an autistic/ADHD teenager.
This updated edition includes information on Pathological Demand Avoidance, Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, an interview with Heidi's son Theo and more.
Follow Heidi's irreverent and brutally honest story of her fight to be seen, heard and supported, while swimming against a tide of parent blame, ableist stereotypes and the weight of other people’s opinions.
Your Child Is Not Broken is a call to arms for parents and carers of autistic, ADHD, or otherwise neurodivergent children. It is the book that no one has dared to write but every parent needs to read. Heidi’s hilarious anecdotes and heartbreaking storytelling offer validation, comfort, reassurance and wisdom to parents who need it the most.

Should be a must read for anyone who works with children
This book spoke to me, it's a beacon of light for anyone starting to doubt themselves and their parenting ability in relation to their neurodivergent child. Thank you.

Loved It!
Thankyou for writing this book, loved it! At 64 with a grown up family, so many things are relatable. Was recommended it by my daughter, who is working relentlessly and tirelessly on a ehcp for my grandaughter. I have bought a copy of the book to give to my other daughter, who I know will relate to this too, for her children too. As you say "the apple doesn't fall far the tree" :)

Nigel! You are an arse!
I have sat out in the sun, listening to this book on my headphones. I have literally devoured it. I have laughed out loud and cried about our journey and the damage it did. The additional bits are priceless and as a mum who has been through gaslighting and parent blaming to the point of safeguarding allegations, I felt every word.
Theo thanking for allowing your story to be told and for adding your voice. I’m so sorry you went through this. Thank you Heidi for writing this and reading it, your voice added something very special.

Really enlightening
My daughter has just received an autism diagnosis. I am fairly sure I am also autistic (I have learnt this through the assessment process for her) and that her two younger siblings also are autistic. This is the first book I have listened to since my daughter’s diagnosis and I have found it so helpful and affirming. There have been so many times when I have not listened to my gut instinct because of advice I have received from others (partly because of having very low self-esteem myself) and this has really helped me to trust myself at times as I really do know my children best. This book is (appropriately) in parts angry, funny and reassuring and I loved the direct style. I also thought the interview with Theo was a great addition. Thank you Heidi.
