Summary
Short, easily digestible guide for parents on how to reduce family conflict by dropping unnecessary demands from daily life to help neurodivergent families to thrive.
"Low-demand parenting requires radical acceptance. It says to the kid right in front of you, I see you, just as you are. - You are ok here. I love you right here."
Parent to neurodivergent children and autistic adult Amanda Diekman outlines a parenting approach that finally lowers the bar for the whole family, enabling the equilibrium of the home to be restored.
Low-demand parenting allows you to drop the demands and expectations that are making family life impossible and embrace the joyful freedom of living life with low demands. It can be a particularly effective approach for children with high anxiety levels including neurodivergent children. Amanda talks from experience and teaches you how to identify what the big, tiny and invisible demands are for your own child and gives you the step-by-step instructions on how to drop them.
Full of practical resources and scripts that are easy to implement in busy everyday life, this book is your flashlight and your map to parenting your uniquely wired child. It will not tell you where to go, but it will help you find your way so you and your family thrive.

Invaluable info and help for parents of ND kids
So glad Amanda has written this book! We had already realised that our PDA-autistic son needed a totally different kind of parenting. This book clearly sets out the 'Why' and 'What' and 'How' of Low Demand Parenting, with lived examples from Amanda's own family. It's not just about parenting either; it's about the whole family, about recovery, about trust, connection, and making sure everyone's needs are met, parents included. Thank you Amanda!

Acceptance and hope
Opened my eyes about how I and others are trying to change my children and that by accepting of who they are takes away so much of the burden

Life changing, relationship transforming!
As a mum of pda-er I was so happy to find this valuable resource. Amanda writes from her heart, giving very wise advise about how we go about re-building trust and connection with our kids. I feel as though I have been waiting for years to read this book! So grateful.
She talks about how our own inner work, our own ‘deep why’s’ are the essential piece of the parenting puzzle, and she offers excellent resources (lots of worksheets) and guidance to support you in this. She talks a lot about her own troubled experiences with her children, which helped me to feel less alone.
110% recommend to all parents, we need more humble voices such as Amanda’s.

permission to let go of social expectations
brilliant inspiring book, so many helpfull tips to reflect on and apply personally. I loved how honest the book is around acceptance and letting go off certain idealistic dreams of how a family 'should' be.

Beautifully written
I thought we had a low demand household but I learned that we can really trust in our children if we work with them and lower our demands even more. Also really loved the chapter about co-parenting and lowering demands towards each other. Thank you for this wonderful book Amanda!
