Brian "Head" Welch
About this listen
He left KoRn to help himself. He went back to help others. And along the way, he nearly lost everything.
A life-changing spiritual awakening freed Brian "Head" Welch from a stranglehold of drugs and alcohol and prompted him to leave the highly successful nu-metal band KoRn in 2005. What followed was a decade-long trial by fire, from the perils of fathering a teen lost in depression and self-mutilation to the harsh realities of playing solo and surviving the shattering betrayal of a trusted friend. In this intensely inspiring redemption saga, perhaps most inspiring is Brian's radical decision to rejoin KoRn and reconcile with the tribe of people he once considered family in the metal music scene.
Brian returned to his musical roots with a clear head and a devoted heart. Though his story is wild, hilarious, and deeply poignant, the message is simple: God will love you into the freedom of being yourself as long as you keep the relationship going and never, ever quit.

Excellent, although a bit heavy on the religion
I am not a Korn fan, although I do like metal, and I am by no means at all religious. This book is,however, well worth the credit. Brian is a really interesting guy with experiences well worth hearing. An interesting insight into addiction, the music industry and a single dad trying to do right by his kid.
Really glad I picked it up. What I would say is if you are really offended by the pedalling rhetoric of a born-again this book is not for you. It starts quite light and gets thicker as he gets closer to the present day. Not something I find particularly relatable but I can't begrudge the guy because it's clearly had an amazing impact on his life.
Definitely worth the listen, it's gritty, honest and insightful. You don't need to be a Korn or Jesus fan to take something away from the book or be moved by it.

Truly an Uplifting story!
Dude this had me in teas for half of it. Been a fan of Korn for so many years and knew of Brian’s struggles through the years but this was a true eye opener.
Hearing how everything was going wrong in his life to him never letting go of faith and hope despite how hard life was getting him down was truly uplifting and I think the lessons in this book can benefit us in our own lives even if circumstance is different.
I love how he gave us an unfiltered view of the struggles of being a single parent and showing even though your a successful rockstar you can still go through the same issues anyone else can go through.
*SPOILER*
At the end hearing how far his daughter came from experimenting with self harm, suicidal thoughts, a bad relationship with brain and other struggles hearing how she bounced back and both of their lives improving, man that had me in tears.
I feel this book can really be a benefit to listen to regardless if your a fan of Korn, heavy metal etc or not, even if you don’t believe in God, gods or whatever religion you choose to subscribe to as long as you got hope in something you can make it out of difficult obstacles in life.
Truly an uplifting book!

A great read
Nice to come back to hearing about Korn who I have listened to since the 90s. This is a great story of redemption. Something I needed to hear right now as I have recently come to accepting Christ myself. Thank you Brian.

The honesty and humility
I was astounded at Brian’s honesty and humility throughout this book, it touched me deeply and I praise God that he is reaching those who ordinarily would not step foot into a church,
God bless you Brian, your family and your ministry

Brilliant
I am 33 and korn have been my favourite band since I was 15. Unfortunately, through trying to emulate them whilst playing in bands in my late teens and early twenties, I failed musically but definitely achieved stardom as a drunk with nasty drink problems. I can see how Brian could get so low in a global metal band, as I did managed it in a small local scene playing with my friends! I never suffered the hardships he did after that time whilst getting life back on track so I think it's amazing that he took the long route back to korn and not the easy one that he could have and still managed to end up so well.
The story is great, always interesting and very honest at the same time. Also being read by a voice I have known so well for 18 years, makes this book even better to listen to. Brian could do with less gravel in his voice, but it's just great to hear him read with the emotion he felt going through it all at the time.
The sceptic in me surfaces towards the end, but people believe in what they believe in, and for Brian to engage the two worlds of religion and metal in the way he does is very brave and shows he means every word.
I would recommend this book all the way.

Head - you're the man ...
Didn't expect that from him honestly but it's a truly real turn in life of the guy who lived in a completely different world (dark and gloom, drugs and no God) and came to realisation as is on the pages of this book. He found God and it's so peculiar when he's talking about it - no fake in the man. Fantastic book for those who lost God in their life, who still searching or doesn't have but maybe wants to or when will read this book, they will change their minds.
Peace!
