Another story anchored in a community that the author describes with great colour. Loved the twists and turns, the humour and the salty asides of the characters. The narrator did an amazing job with different accents but I also found it too much at times. And the end of the book is set up simply and succinctly for the next.

Absolutely loved it, gripping, gritty, dark and fast paced. Straight onto number 3 in the series!

Love this author! The stories based on and around Bradford are such a good listen and of course, the narrator Martin York does all the characters justice!
My only negative is his pronunciation of Keighley! But I won’t hold it against him!
Only my second listen of Liz Mistry but will be looking for more!

Being a Yorkshire lass and a retired police officer I have to say I find the narrators attempts at a Yorkshire accent horrendous. In my 30 years I never heard a police officer speak in the moronic voice the narrator portrays as a Yorkshire accent. Sadia sounds like a 9 yr old girl and the desk sergeant sounds like he has learning disabilities! The narration is monotonous and stilted and really spoils the story. There are long pauses in mid paragraph and you can hear the narrator clicking the mouse for the next page - all very distracting.
I know Bradford and know the areas and streets mentioned in the story, and it adds to the enjoyment that I can picture them. The characters are true to life, as is the language and local dialect and the police procedures are pretty accurate, but I don’t think I can bear listening to the narrator anymore so, alas, I’ll not download anymore of the audio books, pity really.

Gus and his team are back. This time they are investigating the deaths of several prostitutes in Bradford.

Although this book could be read as a standalone, it is probably best to read the first book in the series, Unquiet Souls. As before this is a cracking police procedural with believable characters. How can anyone not like Gus? I love the relationship he has with his parents and couldn’t help giggling while reading about the Sunday lunch hosted by them. This time there was romance for Gus with Sadia, but there are difficulties because of Sadia’s religion. And there is a new member of the team, the very unlikeable Brighton.

The storyline about murdered prostitutes and gang turf wars is very gritty with lots of different strands which all come together at the end. And oh that last line! Now I really do NEED to read/listen to book 3 immediately!
