Summary

Toddler a**holery is a normal part of human development - not unlike puberty, except this stage involves throwing food on the floor and taking swings at people who pay your way in life. For parents of toddlers, it's a "you better laugh so you don't cry" period.

Bunmi Laditan's hilarious, satirical guide to toddlerhood offers parents instant (and very welcome) comic relief - along with the very good news that It's Not Your Fault. Chapters cover the cost of raising a toddler, feeding your toddler, potty training, tantrums, how to manage the holidays, and "how not to die inside". Parents will see themselves in the very funny sections on taking your toddler to restaurants ("One parent will spend their time walking your toddler around the restaurant and outside like a cocker spaniel, while the other, luckier parent will eat alone."), things you thought you'd never say that you now say as a parent of a toddler ("I can tell you're pooping because your eyes are watering."), and how to order pizza ("Spend $40 on pizza delivery. Listen to your toddler cry for 30 minutes about how the pizza is all wrong. Watch your toddler take a small bite of crust. Google 'can anger give you a heart attack?' Start the bedtime routine.").

Laditan's wildly funny voice has attracted hundreds of thousands of fans of Honest Toddler on social media; here she speaks parent to tired parent, easing the pains and challenges of raising toddlers with a hefty dose of adult humor and wit.

Fantastic

Bunmi laditan hits the nail on the head with this book. It really reflects the frustrations I feel with my toddler. I listen to this when I’m having a particularly bad day with my toddler and it always cheers me up to know I am not alone in this experience.

This Isn't a How-To Book

I really enjoyed this book, but I do believe your enjoyment is going to be based on what you're seeking. If you're looking for a genuine book on how to handle the challenges that come with toddlerhood, this isn't it. If you're looking for a funny read about getting through the toddler years with sarcastic humor you just can't take seriously, then enjoy. This author sheds humorous light on what being a toddler parent can be like for many caregivers. I don't believe she's serious about how to cope. I don't personally believe, for example, that she's endorsing carrying a hip flask. But as a toddler mom, I nevertheless find the mention amusing because, boy, sometimes it's tempting. She's saying what we all want to say sometimes. She's keeping it real, so take this book at face value. I adore this author, and she's not wrong about what she covers here. She's not on point about everything because toddlers are all different. They won't all exhibit every single one of these behaviors, but on the whole, she's got their number. If you're looking for a genuine guide on how to positively handle challenges while parenting a toddler, look elsewhere. If you're looking for someone who can make you laugh while telling you, 'Hey, parent, I absolutely freaking get it. Want a drink?' This is for you. Enjoy the book. Enjoy laughing out loud because you've thought, 'Oh my god, I was thinking that last night! She actually said it aloud!' If this kind of take isn't what you're looking for, move on, and don't hate. This is a fun, sarcastically humorous approach to why parenting toddlers can just suck sometimes. It's not a book about not loving a child. It's not a parenting guide. It's just, in my opinion, a fun read that comiserates with the parents who are at their wits end. Taking this into consideration, I felt that the narrator's tone and approach were spot on. I enjoyed this read. One last thing. If swear words offend you, don't read this.

could not go past chapter 3

Started this title thinking to find a funny yet insightful parenting book but after 3 chapters of just "toddlers are a**holes so you are excused to be the worst human possible" said in any possible way, no insight was presented or anything else other than complaining. I had to stop.

Unhelpful

Just several hours of sarcasm and complaining. It just annoyed me. I could not finish it.

not helpful

Not funny, not helpful, too much swearing, not insightful. I would not recommend this book.
