About this listen
Theft of Swords contains The Crown Conspiracy and Avempartha, books 1 and 2 of Riyria Revelations. The Crown Conspiracy is the first book in the captivating Riyria Revelations.
They killed the king. They pinned it on two men. They chose poorly.
There is no ancient evil to defeat, no orphan destined for greatness, just two guys in the wrong place at the wrong time. Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater, make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles until they become the unwitting scapegoats in a plot to murder the king. Sentenced to death, they have only one way out...and so begins this tale of treachery and adventure, sword fighting and magic, myth and legend. Avempartha is the second of a six book series entitled the Riyria Revelations.
The secret is in the tower. The problem is the beast. The answer is two thieves.
When a destitute young woman hires Royce and Hadrian to help save her remote village from nocturnal attacks, they are once more drawn into the schemes of the wizard Esrahaddon. While Royce struggles to breech the secrets of an ancient elven tower, Hadrian attempts to rally the villagers to defend themselves against the unseen killer. Once more, what begins with the simple theft of a sword places the two thieves at the center of a firestorm - but this time the outcome could change the future of Elan.

A must for a Riyria fan
I was very curious as I am a big fan of Riyria.
Don't get discouraged from the first scene: not ALL young women sound like a cobold!
The narrator sounds a bit odd: quite monotonously theatrical, in the beginning almost bored. But he seems to grow into it. The second book was a lot better,
Hadrian's reader saved the day. Royce was OK, I guess he just didn't match my own vision. You know, like when you see a movie after knowing the book... But why children have to sound like screeching goblins and some women like witches I do not understand.

over all loved it
found this a lot better than some books with only one reader who can have characters that sound the same in the same conversation and it takes a while to figure out who said what. this however having a lot of readers helped to keep track of who was having a conversation.
I am however curious as to why this is so much shorter in time wise to the audiobook. I would have thought it to be longer as they read out a list of actors not just once but twice. I think when I have the time I will sit and listen along with my book and see if anything was cut out.

Unsure at first, but then loved it
The acting begins a little 'off' I felt especially as the English accents weren't quite right but after an hour or so I really began to regard the main characters with affection. The story is mostly realistic, more so than many fantasy books and I felt the dialogue was really strong with good debates between characters with plausible approaches to their challenges, very well thought through. The plot is also deep enough to show off politics and manoeuvring without it clouding the engaging plot and moments of action. There is humour, very little of the usual thrown in romance and when the main story ends, a second plot starts which is equally enjoyable. Sound and effects were really high quality so overall a great production. We'll done to all involved, I've bought the next two dramatised versions immediately after finishing this one. Loved it.

Hhhh
Good story, but dramatisation is not to my liking. Too much atmosphere distracting from the story.

Wow, just wow!
What great value - two books for the price of one
And what makes it even greater value is that both books were excellent.
I decided to listen to something else after finishing the first book, but I only lasted half an hour before I dived back into the world of Riyria. And I am finding it hard not to binge on all the books in the series.
Michael J Sullivan has created some great characters, woven in a great story and Graphic Audio have bought them all too life brilliantly.
I cannot wait to listen to some more!

Absolutely awesome.
Book 1: The Crown Conspiracy by Michael J. Sullivan.
What a great first book to start of the year with a bang, my first time adventuring into Michael J Sullivan's books and damn in was fantastic. The Crown Conspiracy is the first book in Riyria Revelations series. It was one wild ride from start to finish, its action packed, has a wonderful plot of betrayal and mystery, The relationship between two of the main characters, Royce and Hadrian, was a pleasure to read and had me in stitches with laughter at the quirky comedy between the two. Set in the world Elan Royce Melborn, a skilled thief, and his mercenary partner, Hadrian Blackwater make a profitable living carrying out dangerous assignments for conspiring nobles. When offered a job that can set them up for the year, it's an offer they can't refuse, but it may just cost them their lives for a murder they didn't commit. Absolutely fantastic fun story with it excellent characters that you will love and hate, now for the second book. Very highly recommended...😁💙⚔️🗡🪓
Book 2: Avempartha by Michael J. Sullivan.
Damn, that was fantastic follow up to the first book The Crown Conspiracy, Avempartha is another brilliant tale of adventure and of daring escapades. Like the first book, this was another absolute page turner and very thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Michael J. Sullivan is a very gifted and talented author. The series gets better with each book he writes and gives a new twist to the plot and the characters development with each book. The worldbuilding is excellent, its action packed and just a very fun world that the author has created for us to get lost in and escape from the real world we live in. I absolutely love Royce Melborn and Hadrian Blackwater, the camaraderie between the two is a joy to read. In this book Avempartha the church continues their political machines with murder and religious influences to find a new heir to the Empire. Our two favourite thief's are offered a job in a small village being terrorized by a monster where people are disappearing daily. But our deadly duo might have just bitten of more than they can chew. Just brilliant, this book and series is definitely the place for fantasy readers to be, I very highly recommend...😁💙⚔️🔥

Interesting story
The first book w very good the second was a bit of a slow burner. The actual characters are good but the story teller is mono toned and expressionless.

I had to stop
Not for me at all. I’m had to stop after a couple of hours reading for a few reasons.
1. The English accents / mispronunciation of words dragged
2. The narrator’s apparent disinterest in the prose he was reading really turned me off. I questioned whether it was in fact an AI voice.
3. The background sounds appeared to be on loop and made it really hard to concentrate on the story.
I’ll give the standard book version a go as the story itself sounded interesting but I’m just hoping it’s not the same person reading.
