Summary

It's the year 2465, 200 years since the stars were opened to humanity by the invention of the shift drive. So began the First Interstellar Expansion Era, catapulting humanity into a deadly race for the limited resources of navigable space.

Now tensions between the human nations are threatening to boil over into open hostility. Into this maelstrom steps the exiled Commander James Somerville of the Royal Space Navy. Banished from London to the survey ship HMS Drake he is about to make a discovery that may change his fortunes and throw Britain into a deadly war with its closest rival.

The Performance is bad

If I had read this it would have been good, but this audiobook is voiced so badly.

Worth a read

The overall story was okay, but the author did at times get bogged down in technical details which slowed the pace of the story.

for me though, it was the narrator I struggled with most. His narration didn't flow and was at times out of time with the story which was off putting.

Disappointing

This had the makings of a good book. However, almost all of the characters were English or Chinese and whoever thought an american voice could carry the storyline off really did not think this out.

The book was terribly let down, in my opinion, by the narration.

I like to do some of my listening when I go to bed in the evening. However, I fell asleep and missed the ending. I was so disappointed, I couldn't bring myself to go back and replay it.

The Void War

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. I thought the narrator was good too, but really should have been British.

I like this story

You have the old earth empires in space. You have a captain who has things he wants to do not just a place holder for the readers POV with this we learn the ropes of the world, policticaly and more importantly we learn the limits of the tec. The ships are cool but with interresting FTL limits that creates the settings for our space battle fields, gives problems for the characters to use or mitigate. The story leans on the politics to get the moving but keeps everything together with character story. The best part is there are more in the series.
