About this listen
When unexpected disaster strikes Lord Westfield's Men during a packed performance, Nicholas Bracewell must save the day. Will a vagabond clown prophesy the end of the troupe - and perhaps the demise of Nick himself?
©2003 Edward Marston (P)2017 SoundingsBut, it was entertaining.
One issue I have with Marston’s work in this series is that he never reveals just what a miserable job it was for the boy players to play women. The costumes were uncomfortable, the make-up poisonous, the conditions dreadful. Even though he explains a lot of what Elizabeth drama was like, any student of Shakespeare knows that the job of an actor was a miserable one.
As for the narration, I would listen the David Thorpe read the telephone directory and enjoy it. His voice characterisations are brilliant. He has a knack for accents and tone. If it weren’t for his brilliant work this recording would have been pretty average.
Ok story with great narration
