A Message from The Author

Writing The Undead is a humbling experience. I am eternally grateful to the readers and listeners for the incredible support you always show.

Dan Morgan superbly narrated Parts 1 to 10, but unfortunately he was not able to continue. To my delight, the wonderfully talented Joe Jameson has now taken the series on. His range and skills are superb.

I am aware of the feedback about the voice of one of my characters, Dave. If this change has upset your listening experience then I can only apologise, but both Joe and I, and everyone at Audible, have listened to the points you made and take them very seriously. It is a wonderful thing to have such responsive fans, so willing to listen and work to make it better, plus the interactive nature of the series means you the listener can speak out and say what you like and don't like, otherwise how would we know?

We've got some cracking days ahead of us. Some real stonking rip-roaring storylines to come and both Joe and I can only hope you'll stay with us on this journey.

It is the morning after the storm. Thick fog covers everything. In the stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere, Howie and his group head out for supplies.

Skirmishes and tense fights take place and there are messages left in blood at key sites: 'he's coming'. As the day progresses, Howie becomes increasingly darker in thought, and more demanding of his team. By the end of the day they have discovered a munitions factory, but can Howie hold it together?

too used to Dan Morgan I think the performance was off to me the female voice was wrong in my head Paula sounded like a 60+ year old.
dave omg what have they done to him he sounds thick and he just isn't happy the books are out but it wasn't the best.

Story is as good as ever, good writing and a decent mix of comedy.

Progression is good, seems slow in places but it's a decent build up.

What three words best describe Joe Jameson’s voice?

Limited, slow, meh.

I love this series but really struggling to get to grips with the new narrator. Grimaced a bit when he started speaking as Dave, makes him sound a bit of an idiot, well a lot of an idiot really which doesn't suit him well. No doubt I'll get used to it and I won't stop listening yet. Defiantly not gripping me as much at the moment. Does make me wish I had the time to read them instead. Beggars can't be choosers, I'll power through!

Ahhhh I was really enjoying this series until the reader changed. That’s the third series I’ve quit. Dave now sounds brain damaged. All the other character voices change from paragraph to paragraph. I know it’s unavoidable sometimes, but it ruins the flow & enjoyment.

After listening to ~100 hrs of the previous narrator it was always going to be a challenge to hear the voices of all the familiar characters performed by someone else.

One or two of the characters I have really struggled with. Probably Paula the most, it really changed my perception of her character from being driven and highly competent to petty and annoying. Not sure if this is all in the voice or whether we also got a different side of her character in this story. I'm also struggling with Dave, Roy and Nick talking so slowly, but slowly getting used to it.

Anyway, I'm glad I have stuck with it (I had considered switching to paper back) and have started enjoying it again for most of the characters.

For me the series has been ruined slightly. Dan Morgan is an amazing narrator, but Joe really doesn't do it. Dave no longer sounds the way he should and now all the women sound like julian clairy.

The first 10 were fantastic with Dan Morgan , when I started 11 I was devastated.. like so so devastated. I couldn’t listen and issued a refund swearing I’d now read them from now on. That didn’t happen … 2 years later I started where I left off with the new narrator . It’s been so long I can’t really remember what the characters sounded like.. Dave still dosnt sound great but I’ve 3/4 in and settling nicely . I’m so pleased I was able to get over it and it’s so good to listen to … fingers crossed for the rest!!!

I was sad too, but 2 years break I’m back in!! Have a break but don’t give up!

I took a while to get used to the new narrator and how he gave voices to different characters. But got it in the end. The storyline and ideas are brilliant 👏.

O.M.G. Where do I start? Having read and listened to the whole series all I can say is, not happy. Howie is a complete narcasist, Dave is not a Savant as implied but a complete and utter moron. Damn so dissapointed in this book, as an ex soldier, I would never follow this idiotic narcasist around the block, never mind into battle. Arghhhh!!.

I didn't read the reviews before I started listening and admit that I thought this was it, I can't carry on listening! The lads I adore are gone, I was bereft! But I stayed mostly due to not having anything else to listen to.
My god I'm so bloody glad I did!! I didn't think the story could get any better and this part proved me wrong. Laughing out loud and tearing up, Howie arguing with the zombies under the Saxon! Brilliant!
Joe was not my favourite person at the start but he has captured the entire team brilliantly and I can't wait to carry on! Stay with it people! It's worth it!
