About this listen
In 2061 a young scientist invents a time machine to fix a tragedy in his past. But his good intentions turn catastrophic when an early test reveals something unexpected: the end of the world.
A desperate plan is formed: recruit three heroes, ordinary humans capable of extraordinary things, and change the future.
Safa Patel is an elite police officer, on duty when Downing Street comes under terrorist attack. As armed men storm through the breach, she dispatches them all.
'Mad' Harry Madden is a legend of the Second World War. Not only did he complete an impossible mission - to plant charges on a heavily defended submarine base - but he also escaped with his life.
Ben Ryder is just an insurance investigator. But as a young man, he witnessed a gang assaulting a woman and her child. He went to their rescue and killed all five.
Can these three heroes, extracted from their timelines at the point of death, save the world?

An excellent trilogy
I don't normally go for time travel novels, but I'm so glad I did with this one, it was exciting, action packed, serious, sad in parts and really funny in other parts. This is definitely one story split into 3 books.
The narrator was phenomenal....perfect timing throughout, the accents were spot on and he brought the whole thing to life in a way few narrators can.
whilst some reviewers have stated they thought the character that slips into depression/mental health crisis, was boring or the author could have written the character differently, I respectfully disagree, I think it was entirely appropriate and sympathetically written. it's refreshing to have an author of fiction NOT shy away from mental health issues.
I loved this trilogy and will definitely be listening to more of this auther and the narrator.

Captivating
Does the book need editing? Yes. Is the story good despite this? Absolutely yes.
Let me start by saying, I was spoilt with my first audiobook because it had a full cast; I've since found one person narration hard to get into and sometimes cringe. Not this book, I even binged it. The accents are fluent and easy to distinguish, Carl truly does a great job in setting the scene, pace and characters. I hope to discover more of his narrations after this series.
The story is much deeper than originally thought as a 'time travel save the world' description and I am pleasantly surprised by this, although if I never hear the phrase 'He is Ben Ryder' again, I will be eternally grateful.

An absolute gem.
Time stories can be a nightmare to get your head around, but this does it. Superb characters, superb narration (my favourite narrator to date, he is brilliant). Complex but explained, accurate references throughout, and a dialogue that often had me laughing out loud - which with headphones on can attract funny looks! Couldn't leave this book alone until it was finished, then straight on to book 2, and it was better! Book 3 is not out at the time of writing this, but read together, 1&2 are easily the best books I have listened to in the last couple of years at least.

Compelling, intelligent and well read.
A compelling story and despite being about time travel, it's not a bit silly. Really strong characters who are likeable and easy to connect with. Well read by a narrator with a great and believable range of accents. Roll on the 2nd book in this trilogy.
