Hm.
Great prequel but... Sorry, but the narration was over the top. It was acted out rather than read. Couldn't wait for the book to finish.

Great read
Really enjoyed this book. The narration was fine for me although not as good as other books in the PI series. I did have to keep going back over the previous few pages to hear some of the text again but this is more down to me wanting to ensure I heard exactly what I thought I had. I do hope the author continues with this character either in further prequels or in a continuation from book three as PI. Whilst I can understand some of the negative comments from other readers, I would not let this put any followers of this character and for me, it was exciting and action packed.

Terrible ending - needs a follow-up!
Liked the story but, as this seems to be the last DCI Hamlin book before she becomes PIHanlon, this is a very poor ending!!!

Not as good as the other Hanlon tales
Just not plausible in parts. Disjointed and disappointing.
Not sure why certain characters were included only to be strangely absent later.

This case sees DCI Hanlon and Di Huss having to work with one another to look after a more than controversial German politician, what is he hiding? He is due to speak in Oxford but because of some recent murders linked to an anarchist group, it is imperative that they make sure nothing happens to him on U.K. soil. Hanlon and Di Huss are on the case or are they?…
This case sees Hanlon
Trying to get to grips with the truth behind the killings. Little does Hanlon know she will soon be on the path to trying to save one of their own and there is a confrontation with her name written all over it, will she be up-to the challenge? Hanlon makes a huge decision about her role in the police….

Narration
Good story as always by this author. The cockney accent of Hanlon spoiled it for me though. Her accent in the books based in Scotland was far superior and gave her character an impressive cool edge. Due to the change I didn’t feel I was listening to Hanlon I’m afraid which was disappointing.

Out of book order?
I found this very strange. I read book 3 recently and this is supposed to be book 4 but it seems to be set before book 3. The writing styles in Books 2 &3 was much more mature and cohesive. This reads more like a writer learning their craft. Not the best Hanlon book by a long way.

A good read
It was a while since I had read others in the series so it took me a while to reconnect with the main characters. I had to listen to the first few chapters a couple of times to memorize all the names but once I got into the book I enjoyed it.

Hanson to the rescue again
Alex produces the goods again. if you like the other books you will love this one just as much. We all long for a strong female heroine (that's probably too stereotypical for you young woke people) Hanlon fits the bill. A good read well read that keeps you engaged until the somewhat bitter end. Next please
