Joey McCarthy is stabbed to death in a pub car park in a random act of violence. Shortly afterwards Charlotte Stone's terminally ill mother dies, and then, within weeks, two of her teenage friends commit suicide. The Cambridge backdrop continues to help frame the story to create another engrossing DCI Goodhew murder tale. Once started I find this Alison Bruce book hard to put down, 8 hours in a day is testament to a well written book and fantastic narration.

Listening to my first Alison Bruce novel was a good experience. However, there were so many characters involved that I lost track of some of them, I think that this might be one occasion that the written word would have suited me better as I could 'flip back' to check.
Having said that I really enjoyed the story, it was a teaser and I was left wondering until the end, I liked the main characters and felt that the personalities were well drawn. This is worth a second listen, and, for me, is a good introduction to Alison Bruce.
The narration was good, and didn't intrude in any way.

Couldn’t gel with this book, not the best listening experience, didn’t keep me focused until the last few chapters. But I stuck with it and did finish it eventually...

I love this series of detective books. Gary Goodhew is different than most of the hard done by cops that we encounter. He really wants to be a detective, has great instincts and a wonderful grandma to boot! These are best if you start with the first book and follow the series as this gives you the whole story of Gary Goodhew. Can't wait for the next instalment.

Not your average murder mystery! Well written & well performed; the reader is taken ever deeper into Goodhew's own world alongside the main plot & as part of it.

Unfortunately the narrator is so boring, and absolutely incapable of distinguishing between male or female characters. This makes the narrative very boring. Such a pity. Not going to finish it, sorry.

I enjoy Alison’s books and think Johnathan has the perfect voice for them
I used to live on Parker’s Piece 37 years ago and a lot of the places bring back memories
