Summary

Titus Quayle was the best MI6 ever had - an operative of exceptional and lethal ability. But they burned him, abandoned him and left him for dead.

Holly Morton is the daughter of the spymaster who first recognised Quayle’s potential and the key to unlocking a global conspiracy her father died trying to bring down.

To uncover the truth, Quayle must keep her safe from the threat of a powerful enemy in a globetrotting race against time.

Nowhere is safe.

But to survive in a secret world of spies and assassins, kill orders and kingpins, there’s no one you’d rather have by your side than Titus Quayle....

Dated and mediocre

The book comes across as very dated. Partly it’s the story set in the 1980s, but mainly it’s the characters and their attitudes. The main players are all ‘older’ with a disdain for anything new and the way younger people do things. Which gets a bit tiresome after a while. All lawyers are ‘left wing do-gooders’; casual sexism was certainly more common at the time, but not in the way it is included in this book etc. etc.
Unfortunately, this is a long way from Le Carre and Jack Reacher, a sort of mediocre in between. I listened to the end, but won’t be buying from this author again.

It gets better!

I nearly gave up on this one. It started off rather like a very dated 60’s spy novel but ended up as a very entertaining boys own adventure. Glad I didn’t return it. Was quite fun in the end!

Brilliant !

Like all his books, gripping exciting edge of your seat stuff. Twists and turns never knowing what's going to happen.
Narration as usual excellent, highly recommend this read....

Very enjoyable

I love a good spy novel and this had all of the right stuff: a brave hero, a loving woman, evil bad guys and supportive friends who are also very good with weapons. It was action packed. I enjoyed it very much.

Gripping from start to finish

Reminds me a bit of the old Le Carre cold war thrillers. Kept me guessing throughout. Good stuff.

Simply Brilliant

A roller coaster ride of erudite prose, enhanced by John Telfer’s excellent narration.
Didn’t want this one to end.

The Protector

Loved this book - narrator was excellent as was the story - compelling hard to break off. Lots of twists and turns an insight to our Secret Service maybe ?
Would highly recommend this.

Nice cops n spies yarn

Enjoyed it, however, the A place to die is much superior.
John Telfer is an excellent narrator.

Brilliant

Most enjoyable read.
Have not read a spy type book for years.
Titus does not compromise much and should not be messed with.
