About this listen

What Causes Narcissism?
The world has been indoctrinated with the false notion that narcissism is the result of a bad childhood.

It’s as if narcissists have been granted immunity from responsibility. Mental health professionals - and the general public alike - seem more than willing to offer narcissists a perfectly convenient scapegoat: trauma.

The goal of this book, using the most recent empirical evidence on the etiology and treatment of narcissistic personality disorder - is to dispel the widely held and already discredited myth that narcissism is the result of childhood trauma. Despite evidence to the contrary, this widely held myth continues to prevail in popular media and culture.

This book aims to correct the mistakes related to the cause of narcissism so that mental health practitioners and the general public will have a scientifically informed understanding of etiology and intervention. Because the reality is that almost everything we have been taught about the cause of narcissism…is wrong.

interesting view of NPD

This is not a book for the ones just starting to acknowledge what narcissism is. If you just started learning about this find some other books to have the basics. But it is an interesting view of this fucked up disorder and a way to make peace of what happened in your life during and after narcissistic abuse. The main thing I extracted from this and remained with me is that the npd brains are different from ours and it's a big chance it is a genetic disorder. somehow the fact that in their brain it's different opened my eyes that they cannot do and feel the same with the common human being. It's like you expect for the engine of a Honda to work as an engine of an airplane. still an engine but will not work. Peter thank you for sharing personal life with us, it helped with the story. I gave 5 stars as it was good lecture and brought some new information to me. still I would have loved for a way to be able to put the extra tables in the audio book....I understand those are only in the printed version

Refreshing clarity on this subject.

I’ve been delving into the subject of narcissism for about three years now due to a devastating infestation in the extended family. The clear, scientific reasoning and empirical research presented here feels like a breath of fresh air. The tragic impacts and lasting harm caused to those exposed to this disorder are not glossed over and yet the pathways outlined in this book offer a glimmer of hope. The best material I’ve encountered on the subject so far.
