Summary
Former FBI agent Rachel Walling is working a dead-end stint in South Dakota when she gets the call she's been dreading for four years. The Poet is back. And he has not forgotten Rachel. He has a special present for her.
Harry Bosch is adjusting to life in Las Vegas as a private investigator and as a new father. He gets a call, too, from the widow of a friend who died recently. Previously in his FBI career, the friend worked on the famous case tracking the killer known as The Poet. This fact alone makes some of the elements of his death doubly suspicious. And Harry Bosch is heading straight into the path of the most ruthless and inventive murderer he has ever encountered.

A great book, shame about the incidental music
If you could sum up The Narrows in three words, what would they be?
Gripping, Enthralling, engaging
What did you like best about this story?
The story is told from three perspectives, that of Harry Bosch, the investigation and that of the poet himself. It is cleverly written so you know exactly what character you are hearing about and almost as though you are looking over their shoulder.
What does Len Cariou bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The narrator brings a sense of depth to the story, he creates voices for the characters, something that really helps with the telling. He takes a little getting used to though
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
The day the FBI has been dreading has arrived… He's BACK!
Any additional comments?
it is a shame that the production company feel it necessary to put incidental music in between the chapters. Its not necessary and spoils the books a little.

Unusually I found this book to be long winded and at times quite boring overall it kept me interested but not excited

Music (no need)
No need for music. Its a book not a movie. And no need to tell which chapter I am reading

Superb!
One of my favourite Bosch novels.
not sure I like the sound effects though, I think they are a little intrusive and therefore distracting. the author sets the scene perfectly, adding effects is kind of gilding the Lily! still a five, though!!!

One of the best
Listened to the Bosch series in order including the poet as this follows on, and this one is one of the best Michael Connolly has written. The narrator is good too. The music f/x that some reviews go on about ain't that bad.
