About this listen

From the Hugo Award–winning and New York Times bestselling author of the Expanse, James S. A. Corey, comes the start of a monumental new space opera series.

HOW HUMANITY CAME TO THE PLANET CALLED ANJIIN IS LOST IN THE FOG OF HISTORY, BUT THAT HISTORY IS ABOUT TO END.

The Carryx—part empire, part hive—has waged wars of conquest for centuries, destroying or enslaving species across the galaxy in its conflict with an ancient and deathless enemy.

When they descend on the isolated world of Anjiin, the human population is abased, slaughtered, and put in chains. The best and brightest are abducted, taken to the Carryx world-palace to join prisoners from a thousand other species.

Dafyd Alkhor, assistant to a prestigious scientist, is captured along with his team.

Even he doesn’t suspect that his peculiar insight and skills will be the key to seeing past their captors’ terrifying agenda.

Swept up in a conflict beyond his control and vaster than his imagination, Dafyd is poised to become humanity’s champion—and its betrayer.

This is where his story begins.

“No one builds a universe like James S. A. Corey. The Mercy of Gods is wilder and weirder than you can imagine, and when it ends, all you’ll want is … more.”—John Scalzi, New York Times bestselling author

After binging all the Expanse audible books with Jefferson Mays narrating, I didn’t hesitate to pick this up! I was not disappointed!

No spoilers….

Just follow the white rabbit Neo…..

Another Corey / Mays Space Opera for audible lovers!

More surreal and bizarre than the Expanse so was a little bit of an adjustment but once I relaxed my expectations I came to very much appreciate this - felt more like an early Iain M Banks culture novel in all the right ways.

Markedly different to the expanse, but that’s a strength

I think I'm going to like this series. Its a slow fascinating study of humanity. Hardly any action and totally character driven. The plot has me addicted. Not sure exactly what's going on or where it will go next. I only know I'm on the journey!

A slow burn but completely hooked now.

i loved the expanse because of its realism. while this is a great book, and i am very much looking forward to the full series, I was a little disappointed that the all the aliens encountered , and there are a lot, seemed to breath the same atmosphere as humans be comfortable with the same gravity, and be happy with the viruses and bacteria that accompany humans contaminating the environment. This is better than the likes of star trek where all aliens speak english with an american accent … but only just!

great .. but

Very few authors write like Corey, I loved the Expanse and this does not disappoint. So many little throw away gems, the scene in the theatre where the researchers early on is a study in scene design, so elegant in it's simplicity it would take a master to get right. I thoroughly enjoyed this Audio book. I want to get it on my scribe now so I can annotate it and keep notes. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Masterfully written, character driven, political sci-fi.

Very good start to the new series, was a great fan of the Expanse series. It's the kind if scifi found in books like the Saints of Salvation if that's what you're looking for.

Very enjoyable sci-fi

Humanity laid bare… I can’t wait to start book two in this gripping story, well read and well paced.

Cracking start to what will undoubtedly be an engrossing tale.
