About this listen
Starship Victory, a faithful alien spacecraft guarding its shattered system for 10,000 years, agreed to come to Earth. Now Captain Maddox and his crew have a new assignment. They must find Professor Ludendorff before the New Men do.
The New Men need Ludendorff's help so they can capture the alien starship. Maddox needs the neglected superweapons repaired so he can rescue a Star Watch fleet trapped deep in enemy territory.
But time is running out for the stranded, battered fleet. They're low on food, fuel, and missiles. Worse for Maddox, Meta is missing, kidnapped by the enemy, while the alien personality in the AI struggles to adjust to this new era. Can Maddox pull everyone together or will the brilliant New Men win yet another stunning victory? The Lost Command is the second book in the Lost Starship series.©2015 Vaughn Heppner (P)2015 Vaughn HeppnerDecent followup

The continuing pace made this a book I had trouble putting down and got through it in two sessions, which was quite a feat for me. I am looking forward to the next instalment.

The narrative revolves around the Starship Victory's new mission: locating Professor Ludendorff before the New Men, a formidable enemy, can capture him. The professor's expertise is crucial to the New Men's plan to capture the alien starship, while Maddox desperately needs the professor's help to repair neglected superweapons and rescue a stranded Star Watch fleet. As the clock ticks, tensions rise, and the crew faces dire circumstances. The book adeptly weaves together action, suspense, and a touch of mystery to keep readers engaged.
The strengths of "The Lost Command" lie in its intriguing plot developments and the expansion of the universe introduced in the first book. The introduction of new players adds layers of complexity to the narrative, while the alien personality in the AI brings a unique and thought-provoking element to the story. The blend of science fiction elements and strategic warfare tactics creates a dynamic reading experience.
However, it's important to address the writing style, which you've noted as a concern. Some aspects of the writing style, such as abrupt sentence shortening for dramatic emphasis, can indeed be jarring and might disrupt the flow for certain readers. This quirk might lead to a less immersive experience for those who prefer a more traditional narrative approach.
That being said, it's worth mentioning that "The Lost Command" still manages to offer a refreshing take on the science fiction genre. The Kindle edition's affordability and convenience, as well as the book's unique plot threads and engaging storyline, can outweigh any frustrations caused by the writing style for many readers. If you're open to exploring a different kind of sci-fi experience and can overlook occasional writing quirks, you'll likely find "The Lost Command" to be an enjoyable continuation of the series that keeps the momentum going.
