Summary

When Ben Murdock receives a text message offering a fully operational starship for sale, he’s certain it has to be a joke.

Already trapped in the worst day of his life and desperate for a way out, he decides to play along. Except there is no joke. The starship is real. And Ben’s life is going to change in ways he never dreamed possible.

All he has to do is sign the contract.

Joined by his streetwise best friend and a bizarre tenant with an unseverable lease, he’ll soon discover that the universe is more volatile, treacherous, and awesome than he ever imagined.

And the only thing harder than owning a starship is staying alive.

If you like found starships, unlikely heroes, and intergalactic mayhem, you’ll love Starship for Sale, the latest sci-fi adventure from best-selling author M.R. Forbes.

Must be on my own

I’m not with the other reviewers- I liked it a lot! It’s funny and a little bit weird which suits me, it’s not pretending to be mind-bending rock hard SciFi - character led and a fair number of cliches- but all good fun. I’m just going to buy the next one!!

Enjoyable yarn

Nice piece of escapism which kept my attention. The main problem is only 2 of 5 books are available in audible format.

good performance, bad story

This should have been marked as young adult/kid Sci Fi. it's something I would have loved as a teenager, but it's way too childish for 18+ audiences.

Boring

I tried to stick this one out but couldn't. I just found everything a bit meh (boring). The concept was one that has been tried before with more success. I do credit the author with picking a narrator who did really try to turn an average story into something more. But unfortunately that wasn't enough to hold my attention.

story 2 stars
narrator 4 stars

Good story and great performance

I liked the performance more than the story, but overall this was an enjoyable listen.

DON'T, SERIOUSLY DON'T.

Why did I buy this book? current me is regretting past me's life decisions. what was he thinking of. this is in my top three worst books of all time.

it is the worst trope-fest I've come across. this is not one of those stories that is so bad it's amazing. It is just terrible.

A kid who discovers he's dying, on a whim wants to buy a starship advertised on a spam email advert, - why would you do that knowing it's spam, and your mate is telling you you're an idiot for doing it?- This same friend happens to suddenly inherit several million dollars from his heroin addict mom, -like that's believable- which is also the exact amount of the ship is being sold for. Then after telling his dying idiot mate, he's an idiot, simply hands his millions over to some dodgy looking new york gangster who claims to be the owner of a scrap heap head that looks like an Autobot, because his mate thinks it's cool.

Cars with blacked out windows that hop from one world to another, followed by a spaceship that looks like the head of an autoboot and you shrink down as you enter, just like a tardis inside.
And if that was not bad enough, the female assistant, cook, cleaner, mechanic, pilot is also a cutsie, space ninja assassin!!! If the author was attempting to empower women, they failed.

It is the worst story I have ever had the misfortune to buy. I couldn't continue to listen to it. it is utterly rubbish.
My only explanation was that I had covid at the time I was looking for an audio book to listen to and wasn't thinking straight.
save yourself the heartache. don't, seriously DON'T buy this book. You will regret it, You will only have yourself to blame, You have been warned.
