Summary

Introducing Geralt the Witcher - revered and hated - who holds the line against the monsters plaguing humanity in the best-selling series that inspired the Witcher video games and a major Netflix show.

Geralt of Rivia is a Witcher, a man whose magic powers and lifelong training have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless assassin.

Yet he is no ordinary killer: he hunts the vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent.

But not everything monstrous-looking is evil; not everything fair is good...and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.

Andrzej Sapkowski, winner of the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement award, started an international phenomenon with his Witcher series. The Last Wish is the perfect introduction to this one-of-a-kind fantasy world.

Geralt of Rivea roams a world of wretched monsters and ruthless royalty. His combat abilities, combined with his wit and magic abilities, make him a much sought-after assassin. But when faced with moral quandaries and romantic endeavours, Geralt is challenged in a way that cannot be solved by his skill with a sword.

The Witcher Saga has served as the source material for a wealth of adaptations, including a much adored video game franchise and a Netflix series. Whether you’re already a fan or are looking for your next fantasy obsession, The Last Wish is a perfect place to start. Rich with details and vivid world-building, the audio edition is made even more exciting by the rich, deep tones of narrator Peter Kenny.

Easily listened to with great narration

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have recommended it to others. Very good prose in the form of multiple short stories that feel like a twisted set of grimmer fairy tales.

Just a taste. First book

This is just the beginning! The little stories presented here are to make you more knowledgeable of the Witcher lore. This is the first book to read if you want to read all the books. Peter Kenny deserves a statue to be remembered for this brilliant job he did in narrating the series. Be patient with the books. The more you listen the more addictive it becomes.

A most creative piece of art

I could not put it down!!!! The lack of repetition in the story proves the authors worth, I wish I could understand this book in Polish!

An excellent introduction to the Witcher world

What did you like best about this story?

I was particularly fond of the character development. I know some people have said that they did not like the jumping about in time but a had no problem with it. It is similar to the method used in The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfus or Blood Song by Anthony Ryan, both of which are books I love.

What about Peter Kenny’s performance did you like?

The performance was preety good for the most part although at the start of the book he seemed to give the lead character a lisp which, thankfully, he phased out throughout the rest of the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I won't mention specific instances but I rather enjoyed the nods to several folk tales throughout the book.

Any additional comments?

I've not played the game but I enjoyed the book anyway. This should appeal to fans of the game as well as fans of good old fashioned fantasy.

Superb.

An brilliant set of tales. The world feels rich and detailed. Peter Kelly's narration is sublime. He brings a distinctive voice to each character which is no mean feat with such a large cast!! Immediately used a credit to get hold of the first book in the trilogy.

Fantasic

Great stories told brilliantly, they should have used Peter Kenny for Geralt's voice in the games.
