Pragmatic but gentle interrogation of how tiny acts of lawlessness can lead to devastating changes
I had assumed this would be another excellent whodunnit by Brian McGilloway. I was uncomfortable at first with the theme, once I realised what it was, but am glad I stuck with it. This book beautifully describes how hurt, fearful and lonely people can be manipulated and that there is no black and white but a million shades of grey.

A beautiful marriage.
Narrator and writer a perfect marriage. This is a great novel about the living past. Very truthful and honest. Darkly funny in places and heartbreaking in others. A grand achievement.

The characters and storytelling were well developed and convincing.
The structure though became a little irritating as it broke though immersion in the story.

As someone who grew up in Derry during the “troubles”, the trauma of then and the inability to deal with the past today, are accurately portrayed.
