About this listen
Terror haunts a remote Scottish Glen. Heartbroken Anna MacDonald leaves Edinburgh to find peace at the edge of a Scottish loch. Safely ensconced in her late grandmother's cottage, she can finally heal her heart and write the novel that has burned inside her for years.
Her peace is short-lived. When debonair artist Luke Tallantyre's yacht gets stranded in the loch, he seeks help at the nearest residence - Anna's croft. She finds him annoying. He instantly dislikes the stunning, but cranky hermit.
But there's indisputable evidence that a hit man is on the prowl in the village. Is he after Anna? And what is Luke keeping from her that could deepen the danger? Against their wills, they join forces and embark on an adventure neither ever imagined... including a chance at true love.
The House on the Shore is written in British English, using standard British spelling and grammar.

I already have. I really enjoyed the story and narration. Both were top notch.Who was your favorite character and why?
Well, of course I loved the two border collies! At risk of being predictable, Anna was a wonderful character, so strong, so real, so vulnerable. She was my favorite. ;o)Which character – as performed by Ruth Urquhart – was your favourite?
Ruth is an amazing narrator. She did a superb job with the Scottish and English accents. I wished I'd known her (because I am an American male who grew up near Cape Cod, much like the Luke character!) so I could have coached her on just one or two mispronounced American words. But heck, as a woman who is not from this country, she did an astounding job of getting it right. I could never hope to be that natural sounding in another land's accent! Her versatility was also amazing - from female to male voices - all were clear and really believable. She gets an A plus!If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A heady romance set near the remote lochs of Scotland.Any additional comments?
My favorite part of this story was the setting. I've never been to Scotland, but now feel as if I have visited. The word paintings were beautiful and evocative. Brilliantly done. I also found the plot and dialog very believable and totally captivating. Thank you for a wonderful job, Ms. Howard and Ms. Urquhart!Wow! What a Great LIsten!

Would you listen to The House on the Shore again? Why?
I would possibly listen again as I liked the characters, the hoodies were good with an edge and the baddies were real baddies. It was a pleasant romance with a twist and the expected happy endingWhat did you like best about this story?
The location and the way the characters built throughoutWhat does Ruth Urquhart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The accents, I’m rubbish at some even in my headDid you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really but it kept me entertainedAny additional comments?
Some of the language was a bit jarring, and seemed aimed towards an American audience. We don’t really call it soda or live in apartments, but that's my only little niggle. It’s kept me amused through half a week of dog walking and now listening to another by the same authorEnjoyable read

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher. All of the above opinions are my own.
Wonderful worldbuilding.

The narrator had quite a lot to handle switching from Scottish & British accents then to American. As an American, Luke's "voice" wasn't very believable at times, and he pronounced certain words (garage being one) with an obvious British pronunciation. Of course the gorgeous Scottish lilts were worth some moments of cringeworthy Luke speak.
But the book was lovely. I found myself yelling, "where's Morag?!" when one scene ended and another scene started, so I was drawn in.
Anna, the main character, is a stubborn, strong willed, hardheaded woman, and I liked her very much. I'm rather sick of the mushy, has-to-have-a-man type that seems to be in most romance books. She doesn't need anybody, and she is out to follow her dream as an author. And I appreciated the fact that she did not compromise that dream.
This book has some "love-making" scenes, but they were very tame and pretty clean. No dirty descriptions of pieces and parts.
This is an easy and enjoyable listen overall, and I recommend it.

I really enjoyed this audiobook version , it is lovely romantic story filled with suspence and mystery. The author writing draws you into the true feel of the remote part of the Scottish highlands in which the story is set.
I like the characters good and bad and the fact that you where never quite sure who the "bad guys" where until much later in the plot.
To my non scottish ears, Ruth Urquhart did a good job of the narration and scottish words, bringing authenticity to the book.
thumbs up from me .
