This book started quite slowly but once it got going it had me on the edge of my seat!

I'd never heard of Orford Ness and ShingleStreet (though I have since googled them) but the way the author described them - the remoteness, bleakness and desolation - really brought them to life for me. The story is very creepy and atmospheric and left me with goosebumps as I listened. I love a good spooky tale of the supernatural and this ticked all the boxes. The characters are all interesting and believable, though Hazel totally creeped me out! The protagonist, Lizzie, is a gambling addict and at first I disliked her, though she grew on me as the book progressed.

Neil Spring is a new author to me but I am now going to look up his previous work.

The narration by Jasmine Blackborow brought the book to life.

At the start I did wonder if i was listening to the right book, however once we got further into it boy did it have me hooked.

What drew me in the most was the fact that it take place on one of my favourite bits of coastline which really made me feel like i was a character in the book.

I am very disappointed having pre ordered the title as I enjoyed Neil Springs previous books and couldn't wait to start listening. I gave up at chapter 7. Seven chapters of unmitigated misery, boring unsympathetic characters who I couldn't care less about was enough. I could not give a monkeys what became of Lizzie and even the hauntings were dull.

I couldn’t get on with this. The main character isn’t very believable- Oxbridge educated and yet speaks in Americanism. Supposedly highly qualified and yet makes stupid asinine errors. I couldn’t get past chapter one!
